gear swap

hey guys just wondering if anyone with a 3 spd 727 has swaped the 3.07's gears for 3.54's and if so how do you like them, and is it possible to stay at highway speeds? Thanks

The 3:07 axles are a problem on gear changes. The housings were made differently to accept that gear ratio. The 3:54 ratios do not work in those housings.

There are people that do want the 3:07's. It wouldn't be hard to find someone to trade axles with to get the 3:54 gearing your thinking of.

So if I wanted to switch gears I'd need "new" axles. But do you know how 3.54's would fair with a 3 spd? Thanks

It would drop you to about a 55 MPH truck. Right now if your throttle linkage is set properly you should top out against the stock governors around 80 to 85 MPH.

ok wasn't sure because i've read a lot of posts about different gears in a 3 spd and every post says something different.
