Injectors
[font="Comic Sans MS"]Eh guys... What are the flow size of stock injectors on a 92 Dodge cummins, and what make are they? What is a good make to replace stock injectors with ... Bosch / DDP ect... Would a 40 hp injector be a nice upgrade with a 4 inch exhaust and a K&N. Or do ya think I should just adjust a few things on the pump and get the same results or better...? If I could buy a set of 40hp Bosch for $345. American $$$, should I think this is a good price or would a Dynomite Diesel Performance 40hp. for $494. be better? What do you guys know and can you tell me the "Best Bang for my Buck" ;-) Last edited by Welcome2 : 01-08-2009 at 01:51 AM. |

When you are asking the size, do you mean the physical size?, or the amount of fuel they flow? If you are asking the physical size, 92 would have the 7mm injector bodies. I don't have the answer to how much they flow. They stock injectors are made by bosch. You can get a noticeable power increase buy adjusting the full power screw on your injection pump, and that's free. I believe there are instructions in the tech articles on hear.

The stock injectors are made by Bosch. It is a 6 hole injector. The holes are .009" in size. What are your plans with the truck? Towing, sled pulling, daily driver or so on.

You do tow. On the 40HP Bosch injectors see if you can find the hole # and size of the holes. If those are 190 bosch injectors they make a decent towing injector. You can tow with a set of POD's. But they haze at idle.

These injectors aren't bad. The only smoke I see is on a cold engine. Then it leaves a blue trail behind it. .Any upgrade injector can be made to work. How they perform is controlled by your injection pump setting. In my case these large injectors don't act any different than my stock injectors did. But they were good for a 6 PSI increase in boost with no other changes. They do give me the option of whatever HP I want to run. These injectors can do over 500 HP with the right combo of parts.

So, is turning the pump up as good as getting the 40 hp Bosch....? Like is it worth spending the $$$'s or save the money and go with pump tuning? I can also get a 16cm Housing that I know a friend has (almost new, he went to a 14cm) & I can get a deal on! With pump tuning and the 16cm housing with the rest of what my truck has in my signature, what sort of power / torque increases should I see? And what Pound of Boost do you think I would be creating at best?

Turning the pump is an option. The bad part is it may shorten the life of the pump. Bigger injectors is the better option. A lot of people think of turning the pump up as free HP. Think of it as a defered payment plan. When you pump dies from over pressure you just pay then. The 16cm housing will be an improvement. Your truck if it still has the stock housing is a 21cm. Do they swap. Each truck is different trying to guess on such things as boost is kind of hard. Stock boost should be around 14 to 18 PSI with a EGT running around 600 or so at cruise speed.

I merged your other thread into this one. Its easyer for people to find the info instead of seeing the same questions into different threads by the same person.

I second what philip is telling you... For now my pump is turned all the way up, when i get my new injectors next month, i will be turning it back down. I have a friend who turned his pump up probably 250,000 miles ago and he hasn't had an issue with it, others blow the seals and start leaking or just quit.. I think my friend has been just damn lucky...LOL
