egauges.com has the isspro tach that hooks right in your factory harness for 138.82. You can either buy a premade harness for it or make your own. Alot cheeper than 180.

I have the Autometer one too. It has been in the truck for about five years. Never had a problem. It is nice because it matches all the other gauges.

You guys on the west coast. I gotta get to bed. All you need is the pre 91.5 mag sensor kit. ( basically 2 magnets glue on harmonic ballencer and a sensor reads rpms ) and the tach. Thats all there is to it.Crank sensor. ![]() I got mine from Isspro direct. Part # R8503 tach Part # R8912 sensor scroll down this link http://www.isspro.com/catalog/ISSPRO...log%202006.pdf

AND - does anybody know if this install would be the same for a 94 (early 2nd gen)? I have asked about tachs in the 2nd gen forum, but those trucks come stock with tach's so no one seems to have messed with making aftermarket ones work. I need to get something to work for my motor swap truck and would like to use autometer.

I use the ISSPRO. I think they are very easy to read. Just a glance will do. I don't like having to stare a gauge down when I'm on the road and in the throttle. The BAD thing about the ISSPRO gauges, they don't all illuminate the same. Nope. Some have two bulbs and some one. I have done everything I know to dim the two bulb gauges down. They are STILL very bright even with two green bulb boots and a painted bulb. The best lighted gauges are the WESTACH. They are perfectly illuminated. ISSPRO are easy to install and the lowest price I have found.

The Autometer is easy to install on trucks that do not have a "factory harness" to connect to. It has a band that straps around the alternator and picks up a signal from there. You have to calibrate the tach because of the pully ratio from the engine to the alt. To calibrate, you use (borrow) an optical tach to read high idle speed (Throttle to the floor, no load) and adjust a screw on the tach till the reading matches. Takes about 10 seconds to do. No flimsy tin brackets to make, no magnets flinging off the balancer. No trying to get the balancer clean enough to glue a magnet to.
