The intercooler adds no horsepower. It was originally added to our trucks in the name of NOx reduction.

In a performance application, it lets you make the same amount of horsepower for longer.

Really? I thought it actually made the air cooler/denser making more power... I have been wrong plenty of times before though...

Wink your truck has an intercooler right?? What were you thinking?? If you or anybody might be thinking about an air to water intercooler I think I may have come up with an idea. I work in the natural gas compression field and for those who dont know Cummins has started packaging natural gas enginges!! The point of this is that the T/A engines have a cummins made water to air intercooler that will bolt on to a 5.9 intake!!!!!!! SO the point is that I think I will be failing an intercooler on one that may accidently end up on my truck!!!!!!

yes it does (make the air cooler/denser making more power) I dont know what the other guy was talking about. When he said it doesnt effect your hp. Its simple math. Lower temp air condenses there for you can fit more air into each cylinder. I always that there had to be a way to put an a/c unit in the intercooler. Kinda like giving your engine a/c. Put the cooling coils inside and there ya go ice cold air like in the winter.

He was refering to stock HP numbers. My intercooled '92 says 160HP on the tag. A friend of mine had a non-intercooled truck (I think 1990), says 160HP on the tag. Another friend has a forklift with a non-intercooled BT5.9, tag says 165HP.

BTW the forklift engine has by far the loudest idle I've heard out of a B-series, even louder than the '01 ISB.

I remember reading somewhere that Ford was doing this for the lightning, or they were thinking about it anyways. Something where they hit a button and there would be like 45 seconds worth of cold air to use in the engine for short bursts of extra power. Seems like the numbers weren't worth it though. The regular AC would recharge the "storage tank" and you would be ready again. Like I said, I remember reading it a few years ago and never kept up with it so I don't know if they did or not...

i heard about that too. never saw the new lighting come out. for any forced induction engine its a good idea but not refined enough yet

Yes intercooler's will add horsepower by cooling the intake air making the air more dense and it will also reduce your egt's
