Here is some reading material for you from the sticky on the dieseltruckresource.com. The pot allows you to dial in your O/D shift points to your liking. There is 2 more threads in the sticky talking about O/D by putting a 3.0 liter V6 TPS on and using governor pressure.

Installing a Potentiometer in place of the TPS - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums and Super Cool and CHEAP TPS fix! Dial-in your OD shift point! - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums

How far did you turn the pot ???

I adjusted mine with it hanging under the dash at first so I'd have easy access. When I found out I was close, I drilled a hole in the dash and mounted it with the working setting at 12 o'clock. Then I fine tuned it. Now 11:30 it shifts at 35, 10:45-10:55 it shifts at 45, 10:00 it shifts at 55, 9:00 it doesn't shift - at least not up to 70.

I found that a little makes almost no change - if you watch close maybe 1 - 2 mph...
Then you turn it and turn it and turn it - a little each time and all of a sudden it makes a big difference...
From working good to not working is like from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock...but from 2 o'clock to 12 o'clock is very little change.

You're driving the PCM nuts giving it the extremes.
Try finding the center - roughly.
See how it drives.
Move it SLIGHTLY one direction then drive it again.
You should notice something by the time you move it 1/8 turn, if not try the other way - SLOWLY....

If it's giving you that many problems, you can always put it on a toggle switch.
