24 valve oil pump

i have heard bits and pieces about the 24 valve oil pumps being a good upgrade for a 12 valve. can anyone tell me if this works and why it is better, if it is?
thanks
dan

Ok I heard the same thing and I work about 5 minutes from my local cummins dealer and went there with the part number the aftermarket companies shows on the web. Turns out the 24V pump is the newer design. I put one on mine and the pressure is up about 10 psi and the gauge comes up quicker on cold starts. So I think that if you are going anywhere near the pump messing with something else it would be something to look into. BTW the cummins dealer was cheaper than buying on the web.

Yes it bolts right up just like the one that came in it. If memory serves me right I think it was a little less than $80 out the door my cummins dealer.

No reason to replace it unless your pump is going south or you're rebuilding your engine.
