A complete replacement steering coupler is N/A from Dodge. The rebuild kit you can still get. That runs around $15. To remove it there is a roll pin in the coupling assy. That roll pin holds the coupling onto the steering box shaft. Remove the roll pin and then drive the coupling off the shaft. Unbolt the two bolts on the rag joint and its off. Now be warned. Support the shaft on the steering box. If you don't it will most likely take the upper seal out. There is also a replacement steering shaft made aftermarket. Its called a borgenson shaft. It uses an nongreasable u-joint. That assy run around $180.

I have a Borg' shaft just waiting for one of my rebuilt shafts to get tired. It may never happen and here is why. The first time I replaced a coupler, the original was really loose and when I removed it it oozed a thin 'iron soup'. I replaced it with a used one and in no time it failed as well. More 'iron soup'. The next time I did one I greased the joint with a special marine wheel bearing grease, a heavy blue compound. I slathered it on the outside of the joint as well. I used some plastic ties to hold on a plastic bag which I had wrapped around the joint. I have done this to my two dodges and both are perfectly tight now. If water and dirt can't get in to the joint, it lasts a long time. It does not even look that bad.

You can get the borgeson joint for 180?? Around here guys want ~400 bucks for it! I used a Celica forged steel steering joint on mine, but I have lots of parts around and the means to make it work. No problems yet.

There should be a bit of orange plastic sticking out of a rolled pin retainer. Remove it and using a fine punch, push out the rolled pin. Lots of penetrating oil can help. Get things real clean so you can see what is going on. I seem to remember that the pin goes in and comes out only one way.... I could be wrong though.

you can also use a steering shaft off a 94 and newer ram truck. it has u joints like the borgensen and i believe it's telescopic too.

good luck driving the pin out, mine was flared out on both sides to keep it from slipping and rusted to sh*t. if you un-do the rag joint first you can do the rebuild kit with the whole thing still connected to the steering box. once i got mine apart i realized the tiny pin that needs to be driven into the box to get the guts out was facing towards the block, i had to start the engine and rotate the steering box with vise grips to expose the pin. i used marine grease too, same stuff i pack the bearings on my boat trailer with. water cant hurt what water cant get on.....
