Yet another "what turbo" thread
I have recently purchased a '92 W250 with a 5 speed that is soon to become my winter beater... I intend to do some mods to it over the winter, and then when spring comes it will be getting ripped apart for a conversion on my '85 W350 Crew Cab. My crew has been lifted 6" and is currently running 35" tires (weighs 6400 unloaded now with the small block). My end goal is to have a truck that I can use use to take the family on cross country trips, tow my trailer (up to 10,000 pounds) and surprise a few ricers... I am thinking 300-325 Hp... The whole time getting 18-20 MPG and being rock solid dependable... I have recently discovered that my existing turbo (21cm) is pretty rough... Since I intended to upgrade it anyway, I am not too disappointed, but I think now is a good time to start looking for a replacement (before snow flys) With that said, biased on my goals, what would you guys suggest for a turbo? |

Too small for 325hP and towing. Super HX40 sounds like the turbo for you. ![]() They're $1100 from HTT Its a 60/65/16

Seems like the S300 is a very popular choice... If you are building on a budget then a used HE351 may be something to look into... What injectors are you planning to run??

Before I posted this thread I did alot of reading... The turbos I was considering were: Modified H1C HX35/40 Super HX40 S300 I found a place locally that said they will sell a rebuilt H1C with a 14cm W/G exhaust for ~$600, If I wanted a compressor upgrade ("standard" 52 or 56,58 or 60 with MWES) also it would be another $200-$250. A Super S300 was ~$1100, 35/40 was ~$1200-1500 depending on the turbine. He wasn't sure about the Super 40... I do have some reservations about the HX40 series, because it seems they have weaker shafts... I am not afraid of mild fabrication, but I do want something that will "bolt on". By bolt on I mean is simple to install with the correct downpipe etc... I would also like to get a turbo that will work fairly well on a stock engine, but will excel when the mods start coming... I hadn't gotten that far yet :P |

Whats the specs on the SUPER s300 for $1100 ?? sounds like good deal. the price on the H1c and the HX35/40 hyrbrids is crazy though.... You won't break an HX40 shaft with a VE pump, its been discussed before. Lots of overfueled P-pumpers are breaking the HX40's coming down from High rpm and 45psi.... And besides that the SUPER hx40 has an upgraded shaft. I'd try to go towards a 65mm turbine or bigger...get away from the H1/hx5 60mm turbine...jump up to at least a 65mm .

im not sure but isnt a 65mm kind of a big turbo for a ve pumped truck???? thats bigger then the D-Max turbo!!!!! i think 2.6 class turbo's can only go up to 64mm......ok i went back up and read his first post again.. he wants 300-325hp......that wont spool a 65mm turbo....... not effectively.....i dont know whats the specs of the first gen hx35's.....

Not compresor. 60-62mm is the Compressor size you want on a VE truck....and the 65mm turbine is perfect. A.K.A 60/65/12 = HTB2
