Time for a power-lok!!! They're the factory posi- track setup. Probably easiest to find a used one- with a '93 I believe you have a 70u rear axle, which is a 32-spline, so look for either a whole axle with a power-lok setup or just a used power-lok from another intercooled truck (I believe the use of the 70u as a rear axle began in the intercooled era- non-ic trucks ran a 70b with 35 spline shafts). I have power-loks in all 3 of my trucks and love them- only 1 of the trucks came with the option. I recently picked up a power-locked 70u for my crew cab and paid $100 for the complete axle- waaaay cheaper than any other locker option- i put the whole thing in my truck to avoid having to setup the gears and am good to go! As a non-ic truck, it originally had the 35-spline 70b, but the power-lok is way worth the sacrific of 3 splines!!! If you need to rebuild the power-lok (i.e. replace the clutches) the cheapest I've found the rebuild kit is through Jeff's Bronco Graveyard- at about $72 shipped. Street manners are superb, and power-loks go for a long time before needing to be rebuilt- my '90 with the 1974 W200 body is the only truck originally equipped with it, and it has 300K miles on the unit- there is no slip whatsoever!!! Hope this helps!

If your looking for a used one. Some of the Ford lineup used 32 spline axles also. The power/loc is the same.

If the rear cover has never been off. There should be a tag bolted to the cover around the 1:00 position when looking at the axle cover. It will say limited slip fluid needed in the axle. The other method is to take the numbers off the axle housing and cross them out on the Dana website. The other way is to pull the cover and look.

Philip did you post about the .307 carriers being the same size
on the TDR. I have a 90 with .307 gears and I really want to put a limited slip but don't know the model number to order . from the above post it looks like I have a 35 spline Dana 70 b . I want to order Spicer Powertrax . any Idea on the model that will fit. Thanks Steve |

Any power lock for a Dana 70 with 35 spline will work. 3:54 to 456 ratio is the one you want. The 3:07 uses the same carrier as the 3:54's do. You could even use a 35 spline ARB air locker if you wanted. Its best to pull an axle to make sure if it is 35 spline. You never know about Dana corp.

Another inexpensive option would be a Powertrax Lock-Right. I have one in my 92 W350. I got it for $255 new in the box off of ebay. I went to 4.10 gears when I installed mine, so I had to set them up, but pulling the carrier and putting on in your truck wouldn't really be a big deal. I know you were concerned about street manners, and this is what I can report. Bottom line is they are cheap and they work. You get full lock up, and ratcheting action on the turns. They are LOUD. They clack and clunk like a Detroit. People will stare at your truck when you are turning into a parking space. They sometimes "catch" and chirp the inside tire on the turns, and therefore will wear more on your rear tires. I've had them in 4 vehicles now over the years, and have put a combined 100,000 miles on them all in my trucks and in my Jeep - All with no failures. The factory type one would definitely aid in traction and have better street manners, but a full on ratcheting locker will give you positive lock up and full traction to both rears all the time. It's kind of a give and take thing - just throwing out another option.

I believe 90's come with a full detroit in the rear. Well I know mine is and from the reading I have says so. Unless the guy put one in before I bought it.

Only option was Power/loc from Dodge. If you have a detroit it was installed by someone else.
