The factory gauges are not very reliable get a aftermarket oil pressure gauge and see what the pressure is. If you still want your stock one hooked up you can put a "T" there so you can have both.

The oil pressure should come up within a second or two at idle. I'm guessing something's wrong with the oil pump pickup tube, loose or something so it drains back and fills up with air.

Not good. The engine can be pretty dry at start up anyway. Shouldn't have to wait for a drink of oil, and especially shouldn't have to be revved for oil.

Yes it's attached to the pump and has a pickup that sits in the lower part of the pan. I would get a gauge as soon as possible and check pressure before ripping pan off.

My son had this issue and we changed the oil pressure sending unit.
Cheap fix.

The reason I put a gauge on was because I could never figure out how many PSI. a line was. What I was guessing to be about 40 PSI was really 75 PSI cold.

The point is........

I'd at least temporarily connect a 100 lb pressure gauge and verify that the engine is getting oil pressure quickly after start up.

If it is, replace the switch.

If it isn't and all you do is replace the switch, you'll have wasted the cost of the switch AND you delay the repair needed to keep the engine from catastrophic failure. (Read that much $$$$)

It could be the switch. I have seen them fail.

How much do you know about what this engine is supposed to sound like? If it doesn't rap before the light goes out, maybe it's worth while to just throw in a switch and see if it was defective.

If you're unsure and/or inexperienced, don't gamble, diagnose it.

I gave a tee there at the oil hole, I have a gauge to look at under the hood, the the custom one in the cab....don't run that motor with low oil pressure! Check it asap!
