Front brakes?
hey-Hey!!!,
Is there any upsizing the front calipers/pads over the stock ones? I'd like a bit more front brake and would rather just get a bigger OEM part( that might include rotors). It is a 2WD '90 model. cheers, Douglas

One of the parts stores websites lists different sizes for the caliper piston, but that's all I know of.
You're the first in a long time, if ever, to want MORE front brake bias. Usually, it's the rears that quit. One thing I did notice was that when I put in new pads on my W250, the pedal firmed up quite a bit. Pads were thin and worn crooked as a circuit judge (ok, maybe not THAT crooked), and I'm thinking with the caliper piston moved farther in he caliper body, there is less volume to pressurize, thus making the brakes work with less pedal travel. What about a valve reducing the rear brakes? Proportioning valve. I bought one but I don't know if I'll use it.$120

Same part number for the duallies and SRWs up front.
There was an article in the TDR a few years back about brakes and piston sizes and whatnot. Gist of it was, you can increase your piston bore size on the wheel end (like your 7/8 to 1-1/8 wheel cylinder upgrade), but you can go too far, and actually go backwards in braking ability if you increase things too much at the wheel without a corresponding increase in master cylinder bore size as well. Goes back to physics- bigger volume, all else equal, pressure will be lower. Lower pressure leads to less brake bite. Just food for thought, not trying to discourage you or anything. The brake system is a major weakness on 1stGens. DP

The stock Dodge calipers are 3" pistons( done with a tape measure at Napa). Finding a 3-1/4" would be nice; heck even a 3-1/8" would probably be enough to get some of my money. All this talk about brake upgrades and I sit here with 20 y-o stock rubber flexible hoses...heh-heh-heh. Guess some kevlar or braided stainless would be in order. cheers, Douglas
