odometer gears anybody?

i had a stock of used speedos to rob gears from to keep my driver(s) odometers working, but over the last ten years i've used up everything i had. surely somebody makes a replacement for these notoriously crappy plastic gears? i bought a brand new acetal gear from a guy in newport news va several years back, but i can't seem to find contact info for him now, and the one in my 91 dually is going south now that it's getting cold weather. i need some help if anybody knows where to get parts for my odometer or a new replacement....no odometer makes me CRAZY!!! thanks, tom.

new problem

i pulled my speedo apart yesterday expecting to find yet another broken odometer drive gear, but it's not broken. my latest problem is that the odometer won't run when the temp is cold outside, but later in the day when it warms up, the odometer starts working again....this is a new one on me. i sprayed down all the mechanicals and the drive motor with contact cleaner / lube and i got nothing.....anybody had this problem before?

the odometer drive motor quit on my truck, the gears were broken too. sucked to take it out and fix the gears only to have it still not work. took it out again and swapped the motor and it works again.

you think it would work periodically like that? maybe the cold is screwing with the motor? i've got a couple spare motors here so i can swap one and see if it does the trick. i've swapped out so many speedos and odometer gears through the years that i can do it in just over an hour. i think i'll just match the mileage to mine on one of the other speedos and use my current gear to avoid soldering on that tiny SOB. i'm not so good with a soldering iron!

if its intermittent id look really closely at the gears because one is probably broken and the vibration from the truck is getting it past that point. my old truck would do this then a couple more teeth snapped and it completely quit.

i didnt mess with soldering on the boards i just cut the wires, put heat shrink on the wire soldered them together.

while your in there throw out the filters and incandescent bulbs and put some led 194s in there.

i had the whole speedo apart saturday and there's definitely no broken gear(s). in fact, the thing didn't start up at all again until today on my way home from work. it's like baking in the sunshine somehow makes it start working again??? about the bulbs, are those LED'S something that will go into the original bulb sockets? i've never fooled with any LED's, but i know they put out a much cleaner looking light. also, what are you calling a filter? do you mean the green lense up in the bulb well?

Odd...

the bulbs i used fit in the stock sockets, you might need new bases but i ripped the bulbs out of mine and reused them... the greenish blue things, gone..

You can actually see the cluster. Took six for the cluster and one for the hvac control. $40 with shipping but totally worth it.

Not my photos but:
Before...

After...

holy smoke what a difference! i've never had any real issue with the dimly lit cluster except for not being able to read the odometer. since i've had virutally nothing but mopars all my life, i'm very used to it, but i have to say after seeing those pics, i may just drop that 40 bucks! on the original issue, the odometer ran all day today right from the start. maybe the lube just needed a few days to settle in??? i'm not gonna mess with it again until the weekend, so i should have a better idea whether the contact cleaner / lube is gonna work "permanently"......yeah i know like i said before, i've still got two spare speedos, just no spare gears. i wonder if a guy could find those LED's locally without having to have them shipped? i think i'm gonna call some local electrical suppliers and give it a shot.
