The particles are defiantly smaller than 1 micron. After the oil filters through all three of my filters 20-10-1 micron, it passes by a set of computer hard drive magnets. There is always a noticable layer of very fine magnetic metal on it. Which tells me that it is indeed smaller than 1 micron.

The only way to sufficiently filter out particles smaller than this is to use a centrifuge. Now most people will argue that these particles will cause damage to the engine. They are right, but it will take some time. These sub micron particles of wearable metal from engines will errode the injection pump, nozzles, and very likely be depositing small amounts of metal on top of the piston and exhaust turbine.
