I think a better tact to take with this would be to also contact your representatives and let them know that the US economy is crashing, due in large part to $5 a gallon diesel fuel, and ask them why the government has just passed regulations which reduce the efficiency of our vehicles by 25-40%. Think of all the fuel we could save. And with ULSD, the emissions is becoming trivial anyway. Maybe instead of an Environmental Protection Agency, we need a Economic Protection Agency.

I agree with everything you said 100%. However, you and I both know, once the government gets their inefficient little hands in something, they never pull them out.
I'm not here to argue the merits of the global warming theory and emissions. But what I am arguing is that the EPA, political parties, and hell, our entire political system, will never get off the "reduced emissions bandwagon."
We have to face it, EGR and DPF's are here to stay.
