I actually called him to ask his shop to O-ring my head. He said that is a waste of time, and that the only way to do it is to o-ring the block.
Then he told me that I was just damaging my pump having a zero plate and stock "pop it valves" (Delivery Valves) because because the valves can't flow enough and it just builds tons of pressure in the pump cylinder and it can't get out. And also said that I wasn't running nearly enough timing.
He claims to have a 96 that runs 11. something 1/4 don't remember exact, on 85 lbs of boost and a stock head gasket and stock head bolts. He said that the stock will hold as long as you have the truck set up right aka pump set up right, right DV's, right timing for your setup.
what do you think????? He was really knowledgeable, seemed to know everything i do, and a lot more, so i don't really have any reason to not believe him.

You'd be surpirsed at what some of these old mechanics know. I mostly agree with what he told you.
The service manager in my shop has been doing pumps for 25+ years and he has seen a lot of pumps that have been cranked up to far and tried to push to much fuel through stock injectors resulting in hammered out camshafts. Really if you think about it a stock pump with put "B" amount of fuel through "C" sized injectors. You turn up your pump and your trying to put double "B" through the same sized injector. It is a lot easier on the pump to go with bigger injectors and go easier on the pump mods.
I have heard that if your block and head are machined very flat and with a really good finish that they can hold 100psi +, but most machine shops are capable of being nearly that accurate.
That being said there are a lot of old guys out there that are frightened by modifications and anything that isn't stock (or very close too) is stupid and a waste of time in they're opinion.
