Reminds me of a quote from an officer and a gentleman, "Only two things come from Texas, steers and queers, and I don't see no horns on you".

It is possible to clear the codes and CEL. However, the ECM will then have a different failure due to attempting to use a non-operational EGR. With it unplugged & CEL, the ECM sees no functioning EGR is present and goes on its merry way with out trying to use it.

Removing EGR

If I completely remove the EGR, is there a way to prevent codes without some sort of tuner/programmer (edge)?

I'm from texas and while I've heard that statement numerous times, there is a part of it conveniently left out.

"Only two things come from Texas, steers and queers, we threw all the queers out, and I don't see no horns on you!"

Mannnnn, magically somehow some theif got into my truck and left a black connector unplugged trying to steal something...never did figure out what he was stealing but the truck seems to run fine so I guess it don't hurt it. But the damned thing does get better gas mileage, I need to find this theif and thank him.

Here's alittle update from my end after unplugging for about 200 miles. The truck runs fine with the exception of the EB sometimes being really jerky and unpredictable, and there was alittle bit better mileage observed in the neighborhood of around 1mpg increase. Now comes the bad news....

I used to be a salesman at the dodge house and I became good friends with some of the techs. I just went down there today and asked him what unplugging the EGR would do. Now while he agrees that it will limit the soot on the intake, he also said that the EGR cooler will eventually backup and cause back pressure on the truck and can kill the engine. So as I quote exactly what I asked him "so your telling me that if I'm gonna mess with anything I just need to delete it all together?" His answer was "Yep"

With this being said, I've heard some people claiming that the EB was staying on while it was turned off and apparently in reality it wasn't the EB it was the cooler backing up and creating back pressure which is identical to what the EB does.

So, with 2000 miles on my truck I will plug my EGR back in and keep it plugged in until it either screws up under warranty or the warranty runs out and I just do the deletes.

Now that we have alittle more information on the topic of EGR I think we can make some educated statements.

1. The EGR unplug does in fact cause the EGR Valve to stay closed which will result in backing up the EGR cooler over time.

2. When the vehicle goes into regen with the EGR unplugged it can sometimes cause loss of power, this is acheived by the intake butterfly closing off cool fresh air to increase temps needed for regen, which means that the truck is being starved of air and has loss of power. This also means that some of the regens aren't completing correctly and could be causing the constant regens.

Kinda makes you wonder why they are only covering 6.7 emissions stuff for 50k miles....hmm... when all others out there have at least 100k mile warranty on emission related stuff...

Gents,

I'm thinking about taking the leap with my 6.7...(37k miles)

I plan on doing the DPF Delete and EGR Block off from H&S
H&S Performance - DPF Delete Kits

questions are:

Is this the best possible way to delete everything?
Will I throw codes when completely removing everything? (codes from DPF or EGR?)
What kind of gains will I see (MPG and HP/TQ)?
Can I revert back to stock easily and without the dealer knowing?
Are these the only 2 basic things to make my truck "better"?

Thanks for all the work Polarco. It cost me a grand total of 40 cents to get a freeze plug to plug up my egr crossover and about 30 minutes to put it in. Still getting 50% better diesel mileage than I was when I bought the truck. Just averaged 17.8 mpg on a round trip from Dallas to Baton Rouge.

so sorry for bothering with this. I am new, I have 5k on my truck. I should just put the two blocker plates under the valve to keep anything from coming out toward the intake. Does the cross over run from the valve to the intake? I haven't really looked at the hole egr system yet. Where is the cooler for this system at? Like I said I am new to this hole system. Can someone point me in the right direction? I want to keep it looking stock for the warranty.
