5th gear problems

Anybody having any problems with the manual transmission "spitting" it out of 5th gear immediately after putting it into gear? It happens about 30% of the time, more often when the vehicle is warmed up.

It honestly feels like I don't know how to drive a stick- (but I do!). Everyone who has driven it that wasn't employed by dodge has had it happen. After the service manager spent 10 minutes showing me how to shift into 5th gear I almost lost it. He said he would put a bulletin on the star hotline or whatever- I doubt he did.

It is a 2008 3500 SRW 4x4 6spd manual.

Sorry if this has been covered, I have spent the last 30 minutes searching.

this may or may not help but, my dad had the same problem with his 02 5 spd. he took it to a transmission shop and they told him that the nut holding 5th gear in place had backed off. they also told him this was a common problem with the 5 spds. not sure if it is with the 6's, but it sure sounds like the same symptoms. anyway, hope it helps. let me know either way

The 5spds are notorious for the nut backing off... I don't believe the 6spds have the same problem, never heard of it anyways.

Good to know a little bit more about the tranny... thanks guys.

When i got a 99 when they had the 6 speed for the first time it happened right within 5k miles the 5th gear all ways popped out especially hitting a bump they ended up throwing a whole new tranny in her since it had few thousand miles i wasnt gonna have them be rebuilding $hit since it was new basically but i would talk to several dealers and try for a new tranny

As soon as I get back to town its going back to the shop and I will be getting something done. I will most likely end up getting a whole new tranny... we'll see. Thanks for the heads up.

Syncronizers maybe? I've never heard of that problem yet for the G56. My 1975 JD 4230 does that though, I have to hold it in 5th and 6th and that is from the sycronizers being bad. Oh and my clutch is shot though!

Yeah the service manager told me the transmission wasn't like the older styles, something about it not having synchro's and stuff... At that point I knew what kind of dealer I was dealing with. I am just going to press for a new tranny and raise hell until I get one. Or just pull the building down. One or the other. lol.
