Won't recognize key.

I have had twice where the truck would not start, I figured out the first time it was not recognizing the key. I found on another forum to disconnect the batteries. Has anyone else had this? Does it get worse? The code was "lost communication with security module".

Thanks for any info.

Did your key get wet?

Or, you may want to put a new battery in it.

What did it do. This has happened to mine twice as well. Mine tried to start about half a turn then went dead. Every thing on the truck worked but would not turn over. an hour later the darn thing started right up.

My 2006 had this happen one time. The truck would start then die and the secuity light on the gauges would stay on. I disconnected the batteries, touched the pos to the neg to drain any power in the system. The truck started and I've never had the problem since. The local dodge techs did not have an explination for what happened. If you happen to be towing a trailer with any batteries on board remember to pull the RV plug.

Did you try to start it in nuetral? A coworker of mine had this proble with a jeep patriot that she purchased. they replaced the box that senses the key 3 or 4 times and she was still ahving the same problem. Finally someone told her son to tell them to check to see if the shifter was going into park all the way. This ended up being the problem. It showed that it was going into park and it was allowing her to remove the key, but the sensor wasn't reading that it was all the way in park so it wouldn't turn over.

What tipped me off that it was not recognizing the key is that the doorlock buttons also would not work. I found out to disconnect the truck batteries to get it to reset. Since that also clears the code, the dealer figures it doesn't exist. Only happened twice, I just need to make sure I always have a wrench with me.

So did you ever figure out what caused it? I have tried the nutral switch, that was not it. I am wondering if there is a relay or something like that that can cause a no start then start just fine later on.

I had it happen once. It happens when it doesnt pick up the reading from the chip in the key. I stepped away from the truck about 200 ft and walked back to it and it worked fine. Never had the issue again.

Last year (at around 8,000 miles) I had a similar problem twice. Truck would crank but not start. I used the key fob to lock and unlock the doors after which the truck started and ran fine. I don't know if the lock / unlock did any good or if walking around the truck clock wise then facing the east would have worked as well. Next trip to the dealer found two inactive codes - one of which was the "P0513 Invalid Skim Key". The dealer found ""no problem with the skim system"
It hasn't happened since and I now have 26,000 on the truck.

its a common thing with the 2007 dodge pickups, its the wcm module going bad, thers actually a yellow fuse in your fuse box that had a white plastic holder around it that you can pull out for a couple minutes and put back in and that will reset your your system and you can start it. ive had four put in my 07 under warranty and so far they only last about two weeks and its starts doing it again, i was informed by my dealer after they installed the last new one two days ago that if it does it again im supposed to have my pu towed to the dealer so they can give all the codes to chryler before its reset, it loses communication with the computer and doesnt reconize the key. The tek at my dealer told me there was a couple hundred pickups out there doing the same thing as my and chrylser doesnt know how to fix it yet, the were talking about maybe putting a new wiring harness in my if it acts up again thinking it was back feeding through the system.

when i got my new 2008 2500 the salesman told me if you dont use the extra key every month or so it will go bad... lose security code... etc. he said just to use the extra key every so often and it will be fine.
