First oil change
Hello, I have an 09 Ram with the diesel and had the oil changed for the first time at the dealer a few days ago. This morning before starting it I checked the dip stick and it appears to over full by at least a half a quart or possibly more. This has happened to me with the Hino truck I drive as well, manual calls for x amount of oil and it shows over full on the stick. Question? Should I be concerned? Drain some of it out? I looked at the drain plug and was not familair with this type. Does it require a special tool? Thank you! Dan |

I have had trouble twice with oil changes from the dealer. They did not let the truck drain long enough ( I think) and then put the specified amount in. I checked the oil before I left the lot, and it was overfull, so they brought it back in and drained some out. HOWEVER, If it is drained properly, and you fill it the correct amount, and everything shows good when you first check the oil, it will still rise over time. Due to the emissions BS, fuel dilution. It is OK, but makes you wonder...

I beleive there is a previous thread about this somewhere ... i could be wrong either way the cummins 6.7 and 5.9 take 3 gallons of oil ... (12 quarts) with filter change. i beleive there are some miss calculations on some of the dipsticks due to the plastic junk... the oil drain plug is removed with the end of a 3/8" drive ratchet
