2009 6.7 EGT's What is everyone seeing towing and empty

I just installed my Edge Insight gauges with the pyro and boy am I glad I did. My old 5.9 temps rarely ever got above 900 degrees. My new 6.7 I am seeing 1200-1300 at 65 MPH on highway in a head wind unloaded. According to the Edge, Regen was not running at the time. I am scared to death to see what it will read when towing my 15k trailer. What are normal EGT's on this motor loaded and unloaded? and what are high EGT's on this motor? The pyro I will be installing for the turbo temp monitor is post turbo approx. 2-3" behind the turbo on the elbow. Thanks for your help

Your temps are normal. The 6.7 runs hotter than a 5.9 and I have owned both. When I was on a recent trip I checked the check at the bottom of a steep (8%) grade and went about 1 km.
TEMP DEAD START TOP
ECT 210 214
TRANS 174 188
EGT 670 1263
BOOST 0 22
Outside temp was 28 C. (very warm temp but not overly hot)
Weight 23,000

I have my thermocouple installed in one of the egr cooler delete plates, Im usually around 550-750 empty. With the gooseneck empty on the back, it got up around 8-900 on acceleration, but then dropped back down around 650 at cruise speed. Trailer is around 8K empty. Its a heavy pig.

The 6.7's will scare the liver out of you when watching the temps LOL... They do in fact get way hot with how they are firing the last injection pulse so late that the exhaust valve is opening before its through, this leads to really hot EGT's...

As of to date, I have burned up two of the EGT probes while towing all the time as I do... They look fine on the outside of the probe, but the sensor on the inside is fried... So make no mistake about what you can see here with the 6.7 far as EGT's...

The biggy thing that makes this so hard to say just how freakin' hot these motors can get is, it makes a huge difference in what you do far as mods and how your driving the truck...

How long have you been using smarty? Do you use it on low settings, mainly to clear codes for deletes? I am being nosey because people that have been running the hot setings seem to be having proplems, head gaskets, trans, etc I note by your sig you have 2ooK. I am about to purchase smarty only to clear codes not for added power. Want to get rid of dpf & egr have had sooty oil since day one. Any comments about how it has worked out for you would be appriciated. Thanks. Doug.

Not to sound stupid but I need some advice, I had an 02 5.4 with a Edge with Att. and it was great. I just bought an 09 Dodge 3500 with a 6.7 and am looking to get more power, better mileage and maintin my warranty, sound familier? I'm sure everybody want this but am hoping to take advantage of all of your experiences. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had the Smarty for about 6 weeks now , I bought the truck from a oilfield consultant who put on 2000km per week for a duration of 2 years hence the 198,000Km when I bought it and did the deletes two weeks later . I do keep it on the lower settings and am a modest driver , If I get challenged at a set of lights I'll take you up on your offer but generally drive like an old man . I absolutely love the EGR , Cooler , Dpf deletes and Smarty system....even on the moderate settings it has impressive power without stressing components to much . Fuel consumption on the hi way has improved by about 3mpg average maybe even more . Oil stays much cleaner and it gives me piece of mind knowing I have actual oil flowing through and not black gritty ink . I have about 3000km with the deletes and have absolutely no regrets . the truck sounds and runs a hell of a lot better , A real joy to drive . My next purchase will be the pillar mount guages my 96 3500 has them and they are indespencible

All I can say is just start reading threads and do searches on specific topics and start educating yourself . I came on to this forum full bore about two months ago not knowing what a DPF or EGR delete was and dedicated my time to bringing myself up to speed , Having just bought the truck I had a feeling this was a great forum with lots to offer . The Smarty system will definitly give you more power but you might be sitting on the fence as far as warranty
