Big Rig Sound

Hello all,
Recently I pulled up next to an 08 3500 duellie with a Cummins and when he pulled away, it sounded like an 18 wheeler log truck with a stack and no muffler! I have a Stage II DPF/EGR delete and 4" exhaust from turbo to muffler on my 08 2500 and I don't have anything near that sound. I left my muffler on because I read where it is basically a straight through design and provided no back pressure or sound suppression. Do you guys know if this is true? Is my muffler the difference between the way my truck sounds and that guy's big rig sound?

Thanks for your help,
jw

Looked like that guy's exhaust was factory...at least what I could see of it from the rear.

I have 4" Turbo Back. With no muffler it got a little deeper.

In all reality it could have been an 07 5.9 straight piped. Those still sound so much better than the 6.7. Cosmetically the 07 truck itself looks almost identical to the 08. Our VGT turbo really quiets down the motor even straight piped and deleted.

Did it have heavy duty chrome script letters on the doors or the square red heavy badge. That's the dead give away between a 6.7 to 5.9 with the new stlye front end and headlights.

My guess it was a 5.9.

Some 5.9's came out with the red square hd badge. I think in '07, they were pretty much identical. But I agree, it was probably a 5.9, there's no way to get a big rig sound out of the 6.7's

x2 Mine is an '07 and i have the square door badge, the only way to tell the difference if thats the case is the Blutech Badge on the tailgate or just to hear it running... I would bet anything it was a 5.9 cuz im ALWAYS being told that i sound exactly like a big rig.. ITS GREAT!!!

Did not know that. I thought the badging was different I stand corrected.

I did hear a 6.7 with an aftermarket turbo, not sure who's and it sounded like a mf'n monster.

I always look at the tail lights, badge, and then tail pipe to see if it's all sooty or not. You can also see the dpf on some of them. For those that have deletes, I wouldn't be able to see a difference.
