I have a 5" TBE and it in no way sounds like a 5.9.

Don't the 5.9's have the Cummins badge up by the headlight and the 6.7 has it by the door? Thats what I have noticed but I don't know if that was the same in 07.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I think you guys are probably right that it was a 5.9 and I just couldn't tell the difference cosmetically.

Chance was running a Silver 64 on his 6.7 and it sounded a little different, but still wasn't anything close to a big rig sound. Still pretty cool, though!

another way to tell a 5.9 from a 6.7 is to look @ the right framerail under the cab, if it has the O2 monitor it is a 6.7, and without is a 5.9

3rd gen 5.9 sound nothing like a big rig straight piped unless you have compounds and a 5" exhaust....2nd gens 12v and 24v sound like a big rig! IMO

There is alot of things that effect the sound of these trucks. If you have two identical 6.7s with the same 5" TBE. One has the Smarty on #1 and the other has it on #9. They will sound different. I know mine truck is much louder and deeper with the Smarty on #9. Its a deeper tone also if the 5" TBE is Stainless Steal rather then Alumized Steal.

Personal I think the 6.7's sound more like a Big Rig then any of the CR5.9's. They also have this raspy sound to them. But the 24v with the VP44 pump have that big rig sound more then the rest.

Also, look under the pax wheel fender at the turbo. The big silver box on the turbo is the VGT control housing. 5.9s don't have them!

I left my muffler on because I read where it is basically a straight through design and provided no back pressure or sound suppression. Do you guys know if this is true? Is my muffler the difference between the way my truck sounds and that guy's big rig sound?

Thanks for your help,
