Your truck should have already had several regen cycles. The OHD does not tell you that you are in regen unless the DPF gets full. The only way to know is to get a monitor like and Edge Insight. I highly recommend it that way you know that you have completed the regen before you stop driving.

Most are either seeing it on an aftermarket monitor like edge juice w/ attitude or edge insight. I'm sure there are others as well. You can also see it with an EGT gauge. The gauge will run up to around 1200* with no real load on the engine. Depending on what type of burn-off it's doing it may pop up to 1200 the back down all in a fews seconds or it may run up and stay there for 15-20 minutes.

One indicator of regen is a sharp drop in mpg on the ohd while cruising on the freeway. If you come to a stop & park while in a regen you'll hear all your exhaust crackling and creaking from the heat expansion. If so a good idea to take it back out for a spin to let it finish.

I believe the injector pulses are 3 per second when not in regen, and either 5 or 6 per second when in regen mode.

The dodge dealer told me per second... but it could also be per stroke... either way.. its a waste of fuel.

OwyheeJJ 09 /Cummins Mega stock

I've had a single regen in 15K miles. Heavy mix of slow driving and open road.

You are confused. If your truck is still stock, your truck does regens frequently. You only know of the one because your DPF got so clogged, it had to alert you to act. Normally, there is no indication of a in-process regen at all UNLESS the DPF is 80% or more full.

If you have the right 3rd party gauges or monitoring equipment, you can tell when "normal" regens happen. As mentioned earlier in the thread, if you have some way to see exhaust gas temps-- they climb up during regen. There are monitors like the Edge Insight that read the data port and can alert you to a normal regen. But normal regens are NOT indicated by the stock Dodge stuff.

There are also different types-- passive and active.

Much has been written about regens in the forum. One very good thread that pulled all info together. Maybe a search can find it.
