Oil Change???
Let me first say hello, Im new to the diesel world, Just got me a 2008 Megacab DRW with the resistol package, and Im lovin life, this truck is awsome and I feel like i could pull a house down if need be, I have always had gas burners, But I have some cows and horses that I move around and the ole gas burner was not cutting it, So I up graded. The truck has 40500 miles and When I got it I took it straight to the dealer to get the most current flash, and I have had no problems, after reading this forum I decided to upgrade my fuel filering system and I have ordered the fleetguard FS filter and the extra filter kit to get it down to 2 mic just for protection, My Question is on the Oil changes, Should this be done at the dealer, or a local shop, Or is this something I can do at the house, I have always changed my own oil but dont know how to change the oil on this diesel I guess what im asking are there any tricks or tips, Also the dealer said the the overhead would tell me when the oil needs to be changed, but with it being used I would like to know whats in it and when it was done, also is there anything I should grease or lube, are other things that should be addressed, like a good oil filter and whats amout of oil should be used or brand of oil. Thanks in advance and this site rocks I have learned so much over the last week of reading.........

Do it yourself. For oil & filter, needs to be CJ-4 compliant (Valvoline Blue, Rotella, Delo, etc.. 15/40) and can also use synthetic (it's all personnal preference on choice). Filter I only use Fleetguard, but there is others out there that people use (they can chime in on that). Changing the oil in your Mega is no different than in a gasser to a point. Make sure when you drain the oil from the pan, you keep the fill cap off so all the oil drains from the CCV. Let it drain for 30 min or so. You will need 12 qts (3 gallons), fill the new filter w/ oil and install, then pour the rest in the truck and start the truck for a few minutes and recheck the level. 12 qts is all you need. If you are over filled after the change, then you did not let the oil drain completely out. Mostly due to oil still up in the CCV (Crank Case Ventilation).

With the way the CCV holds oil it is best to change it first thing in the morning after it has sat all night.

For the 'Change Oil Message" on the overhead... how is that reset? Im sure that should be done at the time of oil change or does it some hoe reset itself? Is the message automatic or is there a way to set the mileage between messages?

Oil Change Indicator System Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system. This system will alert you when it is time to change your engine oil by displaying the words “Oil Change Required” on your Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate depending on your personal driving style. Driving styles such as frequent stop and go type driving can increase the frequency of the engine oil change. This is the result of more frequent regeneration of the exhaust aftertreatment system, which can decrease the life of the engine oil. Failure to change the engine oil per the maintenance schedule can result in internal engine damage. For information on resetting the Oil Change Indicator message, refer to “Oil Change Required – If Equipped,” under “Personal Settings (Customer Programmable Features)'” in the “Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)” Section of this manual. OIL CHANGE INDICATOR - RESET To reset the “Oil Change Required” indicator (after performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following procedure: 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start engine). 2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds. 3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position. NOTE: If the indicator message illumination when you start the vehicle, the “Oil Change Required” indicator did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure. Perform Service Indicator Your vehicle will require emissions maintenance at a set interval. To help remind you when this maintenance is due, the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) will display “Perform Service”. When the “Perform Service” message is displayed on the EVIC it is necessary to have the emissions maintenance performed. Emissions maintenance includes replacing the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) filter element, cleaning or replacement of the EGR Cooler, and cleaning or replacement of the EGR Valve. See your local authorized dealer to have the “Perform Service” message cleared and reset. PERFORM SERVICE INDICATOR - RESET Unless reset the “Perform Service” message will display on the EVIC each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position to indicate a emission maintenance is required. To reset the “Perform Service” indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following procedure: 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start engine). 2. Press and release the brake pedal two times. 3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly two times within 10 seconds. 4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position. NOTE: If the indicator message illumination when you start the vehicle, the “Perform Service” indicator did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.
