Another Stock Clutch Gone!
My truck is completley stock, and the clutch is gone with 22k on it. I can mash on it in 6th gear and it will slip about every time. I called the dealer and thay said they would warranty it to 36k. My question is the replacement clutch the same junk they come with or have they realized there is a problem with a clutch that won't last 30k miles , and upgraded them. I doubt it but just wondering.

it's the same junk...my 05 had a similar clutch as our newer trucks and it was junk at about 40k my 07 is ready for a clutch at 40k....if you dont have the funds to put in a regular style clutch or a dd I would go ahead and let them fix it under warranty........

Not to knock southbend or anyone else I dod away with all the stock junk and went with a Kentuck clutch it was only 625.00 for the whole set up including the new flywheel thanks to dodge the throw out bearing went out on me in two months and dodge would not warrenty it since they did not install it. Now im having the replace my sixth gear and bearings around the main shaft. Do not ever go back stock on these trucks the only thing I trust in these trucks are the Cummins Engine. Trust me I have had my truck for a year now and have had nothing but problems with Dodge wanting to repalce anything on that it there fault. I already have over 100k miles on my truck, thanks to dodge and the stock clutch I was stuck in delware for a week

After the rebuild did you hear any reasons as to why your G56 lost 6th?

$625 for a new clutch???? Did you need to get new hydro's too? How much hp and torque will they hold? Anyone else tried KENTUCKY CLUTCH -Automotive, Truck & Farm Equipment CLUTCHES too? That is a heck of a lot more in my price range.

I have found that the hardest thing on a clutch is the driver, not every time but most, Starting out in to high of a gear, slipping the clutch, driving with your foot above the pedal, every time you hit a bump, slipping the clutch. Waiting with the clutch pedal in for a long time will wear out the pilot bearing, But most pilot bearings fail because of improper installation, and that will take out the input bearing in the transmission, along with the clutch hub. Steve Ballard, if you lost the bearings I would be sure you get the transmission repaired at a place that is going to check the run out of the transmission bell housing to the engine. If it is out of spec it will tear out the bearing again, and a lot more if the other parts have been stressed already.

My stocker is almost to 75k and has tons left in it, other than trying to hold big tunes. This is my first stick and I'm not the first owner, but I have taken some advice from some big rig drivers: one pedal at a time. A diesel has plenty of torque to get the truck rolling without giving it throttle.
