i have driven manuals all of my life (every car & truck i've owned), and have NEVER had to replace a clutch! i put one in on my last Superduty @ 120,000+ miles because the throwout bearing was shot. the clutch still had a lot of life in it, and that was towing 5 days a week. i am not hard on a clutch. these dual mass flywheels in these rigs are a joke! this clutch in stock form can barely handle the power. that's why they detuned the motor on for the manual tranny.

I have 20K on mine and it is stock and fine so far. I am very easy on it and almost never press the pedal more than half way. I am running the XRT 60 hp tune and that is all the hire I plan on going with it. I think that I will get a replacement clutch in the next two year I am just hoping that mine will last that long. I keep hearing all the horror stores about these stock clutches. I have seen a lot of different DMF setups fail, and that is what concerns me the most since Dodge was nice enough to use a DMF in our trucks!

You hit the nail on the head there. DMF are the biggest joke there is!

I have a 2001 VW jetta TDI and a 2000 TDI VW both had DMF that I had to replace with SMF and new clutch in less then 80k miles. That was with stock setup which is only like 90 hp and 190 lbs of torque.

You can thank Dodge for trying to make our trucks sound like pretty little cars.

I don't think it our driving that is so hard on the clutches, as much as the clutch is a piece of monkey crap. My 02's stock clutch made it to 120k, with 60hp injectors and a smarty for the last 40k. It just seems to be the 6.7 that is eating these stock clutches. I guess there not putting enough clutch to keep up with the motor thay stuck in front of it.

T. Young your probably right but if you look at the history for the last 10 years or so, and what alot of folk's had been doing with their trucks, sled pulling, drag racing etc... and kept bringing them back for warranty work claiming they were doing nothing they had to do somehting, so they put a clutch that would barley hold the power of the 5.9 and if you did any modifications it would slip and you would have to replace it with a stronger aftermarket clutch, so then they could claim warranty void. and carried it on to the 6.7,but this is JMO.

I did the PMT and DPF delete at 6k miles. By 10k miles I couldnt take the PMT out of tow. The clutch itself was fine at 17k when I finally could afford a Valair. The flywheel and pressure plate were trash. Heat spots, pits, you name it.

Chrome wont get you home and it only takes 13 months to get a Road Armor.

The heat spots, with the blue torn out medal is from slipping, these clutches are made to handle torque. if you want to, I am sure you can find the torque rating on a stock clutch. They are not made to slip and the hotter they get the more they grab. They are made to have you take your foot off the clutch then give it throttle.

In my 84 MACK = YES
In my new 09 = NO, it doesnt seem to like it when i dont use that funny little third pedal. Maybe because its so new, @ 2000 miles only.

Well, i CAN do it but this trans is just alot tighter than the old MACK haha, if i dont really keep the rpms high , then it just binds up and wont shift. I do understand that the rpms do need to be right on to do this but MAN if you dont hit it dead right, you cant get er done . I have always done this on other vehicles, but this G56 is new to me. It shifts ALOT different than the older manuals im used to. LOL
