An other DPF issue thread

I recently went on vacation to Montana & Wyoming.

Where to start???

I tow a 24ft TT.
Egr unplugged.
08, stock

While pulling my TT up a rocky mountain road to my favorite camping spot up in the Mtns at around 8000ft.

It is slow going so I used low range to keep up my RPM's (over 1k) and to take the load off of the transmission.

Twice I got the dreaded Regeneration required message, first 80 % full then 90% full.
WTF are you to to do while 10 miles up a narrow, steep, rock strewn road towing a 24ft TT are you suppose to do?

I unhooked and took off down the trail to the nearest pavement and took off like a mad man, 35 miles latter I can turn around and try it again.

This system is useless in the real world and don't give me the old "drive it like you stole it" sh1t because that does not work in the real world.

Yea I'm a dodger, and that is why I'm pissed.

How can this system be allowed to be in production when it makes the truck worthless.

So, to make my truck function like advertised I need to delete the DPF and void part of my warranty that I paid for?

More bullsh1t

Dodge should be retrofitting all of our trucks so they are 08 emission compliant.
I don't give a rats a$$ about being 2010 complaint.
Yet another frustrated owner.

I can't have my family stranded out in the Mtns with out a working truck. (no cell service ether so I could not call for help even if I wanted to) (real world).

So now I'm looking for some sims and an exhaust for an 5.9?

What are my options?

Thanks for letting me rant

If you got bucks go smarty or xrt and a delete pipe for$1000, if your like me go with sims and a delete pipe for $250 and live with a cel.Either way unplug or delete the EGR. You can revert back to stock with the turn of a wrench, everything is bolt off and on. Did mine at 500 miles have 14,000 now and no problems in over a year since new.

I've experienced the same frustration. I made my complaints known to my dealer but all they could/would do is give me the latest flash. So far as I can see the only difference is the overhead display now says "regen required" then "in progress" etc.

Your experience seems to indicate that regen initiation is speed related.

If anyone out there in Dodge/Fantasyland is listening: Why not make regen initiation LOAD realated so a truck pulling a trailer in low range can take care of business?

I already have the cel for unplugging the egr.
After getting the latest flash unplugging the egr seamed to work out just fine. I've seen the 3-4mpg gain and no noticeable loss in power.

I'm going to wait on the programmer until the warranty is up so going with the sims and exhaust is the way I'll go too.

K_IM.
Or maybe even just rpm related as in first and low range it is easy to reach over 1k in rpms so the engine would still be generating enough heat to go into regen?

?? I thought the dealer could do a forced regen while the truck was parked??

I was not a happy camper what if going back down to a paved road that would let you go fast enough, long enough to go through the regen process, was not an option. Going into limp mode would have been enough for me to shoot her and put both of us out of our misery.

really, This is just one of the things that they make these trucks for but you can't use them for that..
I'm not say'en I'm just say'en

What a bunch of crap

Now after reading many posts about people experiencing the same proublem and others that "say" that they idle for hrs. with out any problems
well it is different.
When you idle your truck has no load on it so it generates less soot, put a load on it and she will produce some soot.
I was not at idel but 1000 to 1500 rpm's with a approx.a 6k load.

I guess that I need a set of RxR tracks to go over so the dpf falls off.

this thing generates its best power from 1500-3000 rpm my friend. had you been running it at higher rpm (like you are supposed to with a diesel) you wouldve seen much much much less soot clogging your dpf. who on earth would try to go up a hill at sub 1500 rpms?????

i spent a couple weeks driving DAILY(stock truck) up and down wolf creek pass with 5 passengers and about 1000lbs of gear. sure this isnt 6000lbs but regardless, if i had driven up the hill every day at 1000-1400 rpm as you state, i would def have had some regens going on. instead, i hauled a$$ up the pass in 5th, even 6th when the roads were clear at 70+ mph and like 1800 rpm. no problems there.

but just to be clear you are saying you try to pull your 6000lb load up a 10mi steep pass @ as low an rpm as possible???

why not park and let your truck perform a parked regen? or are they not putting the switches in?i don't have a 6.7 but work on commercial diesels for a living and they all have switches making a parked regen possible. just trying to help

The reason I was only at the 1000 1500rpm mark is as I stated.

"10 miles up a narrow, steep, rock strewn road" Rock creek rd at the foot of bear tooth pass MT, heading for the wilderness.
I was using LOW range on the transfer case and 1st gear

You were driving on a nice smooth paved road. I hope you could go faster.
If I went over 4mph I would have blown all of my trailer tires.

I don't like camping at paved camp grounds we like to boondock.

I too cruised on the paved roads at 65-70 mph. not a big deal.

jeenyus04,
I wish I could do a parked regen but they have not given us the option yet so the only other option would be to remove the dpf?

My bad dude! I caught that but it didn't register. You should talk to your dealerhip about your need for mobile desoot and see if they will ok you for a power pup. Mine had mobile desoot. Aka regen on command

rocky mountain road sounded like paved road to me haha my bad. I thought northern Rockies highway

Yeah be very specific with your issue and get any approval in writing. I didn't ever actually use my mobile desoot but I know these tucks can do it. You can hear it in the intake/e haust occasionally at a stop light. Do a little research on tuners that allow you to start a regen. Or talk to a tech and see if they can help you.
