After I put the airbags in what I noticed when fully loaded pulling the fifth wheel is the the ability to handle the weight. Before airbags it felt like I was constantly bottoming out on the overloads. I would try airbags then if that isn't meeting your expectations then try the overload springs. imo. AP.

THE 3500 overload brackets are welded to the frame so it is not a bolt on. Get airbags, they will be better for light load conditions. The 3500 overload leaves make all kinds of racket and cause a rough ride.

the leafs bolt up they also sell helper springs that bolt on top of your packs
or do what i did took the leafs off a 3500 and added bags on top of that just make sure you have tires rated for the load pressure from the plate to the ground

As stated the overload spring is the only difference. That said I tow a 13,000lb 5er (40') no sweat as modded in my sig.

I tow a 30' travel trailer by Gulfstream, 12K + 75 gallons of water + 30gal fuel in tank+ 50 gal fuel in reserve in bed + box full of gear + camper full of gear on top of 12K and I have the weight dist. set up with 1500lb bars and my little old 3/4 ton sets perfectly level, I thought about bags just to take out the bounce when I hit a bump and I think this tread just sold me

I have DRW and use airbags to help with leveling a load. Last week I had 22,400 behind the truck and the bags worked perfect. I think you will really like the bags.

I got to tell you the best story about the Pac Brake with in cab controls for air bags. I'm at inland cement grabbing some clean sand for my four girls and one boys sandbox. I cleaned every thing out of the box and was waving the guy in the loader to keep dumping the sand, he even says is that enough and I say hitter again. He finally stops dumping as the sand is spilling over the sides and back tailgate. I walk around the drivers side and my heart gones "Oh Sh**!" Flat tire.... No spare (left that at home 8 miles away). Well, I guess I'll try the air pump for the pac brake. Up till this point I had never used it for something as big as this. I start pumping and believe it or not that little pump pumped and pumped and pumped that tire right up to 65 PSI. It took it us 20 minutes as I had to give her a rest every few minutes to relax a bit, but I had 3.045 tonnes (x 2200 lbs/metric tonne = 6699 lbs for my American brothers) of sand on the Dodge and drove home with the airbags right at 90 PSI and when going over the tracks they bounced to 120/30PSI. That truck road like a dream for those 12 kms home. Having that little compressor that runs the exhaust brake and air bags was a real bonus that day. Yes I was extremely loaded, and if the Department Of Transfiguration (DOT) would have pulled me over I would have had to have asked for forgiveness. That's one story why I'm so thankful I spent the money on the PacBrake exhaust brake system with in cab controls for the air bags. Thanks for reading guys and have a great evening. Cheers, AP

Another quickee if its OK. Last night my neighbour asks me to go pick up a 40 foot fifth wheel 1980's vintage for a $100. I'm assuming would be prehistoric pop out but it actually had one at the back drivers side. This thing was old, fat and just plain ugly heavy. It hadn't been moved in so many years that the tires had dirt almost up to the rims embedded around them. I hook up to the ol'snatch (is what I'll called her) and I'm three inched too high. So I drop all the air out of the bags so I can pick her up and I'm still high. Good thing I'm only running 245 70 R17 for the summer instead of the 285's that I really like. Fortunately I had brought along my deep cycle fishing battery from Crappy Tire and I hook her up to power and start jacking her up. It takes a while but I finally get to the point where I can back up underneath her. Anyways I throw the Dodge into four low and pull the ol'snatch out of the hay barn. I'm sitting so high that the back two rollers are dragging on the ground, one had already broken off, I'm assuming as I sucked her out of the dirt. Well I'm committed to getting her back to my neighbours so lets roll. I hook up the lights and some worked some didn't so I'm rollin'. I drag her down to the pavement and she scratches the ground and I can feel her tuggin at the cock on the fifth. We head on down the highway and I have never towed anything this big, ugly and heavy before and that Dodge just simply amazed me. Pac brake worked so well I didn't even have to touch the brakes coming to a stop sign and I only had the air bags at 15 PSI so I wouldn't purposely be dragging ol'snatches arse end in the dirt but what a truck. Temp gauges were at 98 degres Celcius (208 - 210 F) when accelerating and came back down to 95 when on the flat, but bucking that wind should have tried to set the Diablo for Tow mode instead of performance. Love the air bags guys can't say enough. ttyl. AP
