Can you list the part numbers that are the latest version? I have an early 08 with the old setup. I would like to buy the parts and put them in myself.
I have also heard of an upgraded power steering. Do you have any info on that.

PS , There is nothing that I know of updates on power steering except for the recall H46 which deals with the issues I discussed above, it was released for a few days and then retracted for revisions.

Reason: updated info
Here is a quote from an old thread about the power steering.
"they have a new design power steering pump out that dont use a dip stick its read off a a mark like the coolant bottle.. pretty slick and wow i dont think mine has ever steered that easy and smooth even when it was new with 265's and i have 35's now"
Hi
That is a part # for a box alright,. Part numbers start life a AA at the end. As things are improved or vendors are changed, they change the suffix. AG means that has been superceeded 6 times. But that is not a tsb or a recall thing.
I had my entire steering system replaced a few months ago
it switched from the Y style to a crossover style with beefier components and a new stabilizer and bolt on stabilizer bracket. By replacing this the way mine was done the alignment was also done under warranty. Toe is affected since all of the links were replaced. I told them I had death wobble and this is what they did for me.

I am wondering if I can get the dealer to replace my steering under warranty. I have never had death wobble, but I know I want the cross over steering, what can I do to have it replaced? Cause its a better design and they obviously knew it could use some help. I would like to get this done before my local dealer closes down.(not sure when thats happening)
Also, my steering squeals like an old Jeep when I have the wheel cranked to the locks either direction and am really cranking, like making a tight turn, in and out ofparking spaces, backing in my trailer, etc. Think its the power steering pump? or box? No leaks anywhere. The problem is, it doesn't do it all the time, so I have a feeling dealer "won't be able to duplicate customer concern"
any ideas?

Tell them when you drive it and hit a bump around 45 mph at times it feels like the wheels are going to fall off of the truck and you are afraid that you may have an accident.
sometimes it's hard to reproduce a death wobble situation and i doubt they would send you home without doing performing the TSB for the steering upgrade
have them use this TSB number 22-005-06
this is not a recall

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves verifying the condition of the vehicle front suspension and steering
components, and adjusting the front tire pressure.
MODELS:
2003 - 2007 (DR/DH/D1/DC) Ram Truck (2500/3500)
NOTE: This bulletin applies to four wheel drive (4x4) 2500 and 3500 model vehicles.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a self sustaining vibration (shimmy) felt in the front end of
the vehicle after striking a bump or pothole.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer experiences the above condition perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
Qty. Part No. Description
(AR) 1 52106909AE Damper, Steering
(AR) 1 05086146AC End Package, Tie Rod Outer
(AR) 1 05086144AC End Package, Tie Rod and Link Outer
(AR) 06505623AA Nut and Washer, Tie Rod
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Dial Indicator (for front suspension)
Torque Wrench - 1/2 inch drive
NUMBER: 22-005-06
GROUP: Tire & Wheels
DATE: October 07, 2006
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Raise the vehicle on an alignment rack (drive-on lift).
2. Verify the road tires are correctly sized and the tire tread is not excessively worn.
Replace any worn tire before proceeding. Any new or old replacement tire should be
equal to the original tires that came with the vehicle when it was new. Tire wear is not
covered by the vehicle warranty.
3. Set the tire pressure for the FRONT TIRES to the following specification, regardless
of the load being carried by the vehicle.
Tire Size FRONT Tire Pressure
LT235/80R17E or LT245/70R17E 448 Kpa (65 psi)
LT265/70R17E or LT285/70R17E 414 Kpa (60 psi)
4. Set the tire pressure for the REAR TIRES as recommended for the vehicle
configuration and load that is being carried at the time.
Tire Size REAR Tire Pressure
LT235/80R17E or LT245/70R17E Refer to the Tire Inflation Chart brochure in
the Owners Manual or to the placards
located either on the face of the driver's door
or on the driver's side “B” pillar.
LT265/70R17E or LT285/70R17E Refer to the Tire Inflation Chart brochure in
the Owners Manual or to the placards
located either on the face of the driver's door
or on the driver's side “B” pillar.
5. Verify that the steering damper is operating correctly.
a. Unbolt the end of the damper at the axle end.
b. Cycle the damper rod by hand.
c. There should be resistance to motion in both directions of the damper rod.
d. Replace the damper if no resistance is present.
6. Verify both outer tie rod ends dust covers are not worn.
a. Attempt to rotate the dust cover by hand.
b. If the dust cover on an outer tie rod end can be rotated, or is free and loose, then
replace the tie rod (regardless of joint wear).
7. Inspect each outer tie rod end for internal wear.
a. Maximum allowed wear (joint travel) for a tie rod end is 1.15 mm (0.045 in.).
b. Install a dial indicator to the tie rod end (in-line with the vertical stud of the tie rod
end).
c. With a pry bar placed between the steering linkage and the axle tube, pry upwards
while measuring the amount of joint travel (wear).
d. Measure the amount of wear in the other outer tie rod end joint.
e. If wear (joint travel) in either outer tie rod end is greater than 1.15 mm (0.045 in.),
then replace the worn tie rod end.
8. Verify the torque on each outer tie rod end stud nut. The nut should be tightened to
122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
9. Make sure any worn outer tie rod ends have been replaced before proceeding further.
10. Verify all other steering linkage connections are tightened to their torque
specifications.
22-005-06 -2-
11. Grease both outer tie rod ends (even if the outer tie rod is new). Apply sufficient
grease to each tie rod end until grease is seen purging from the joint at the dust
seal.
12. Align the vehicle front end. Adjust to specifications.
13. Road test the vehicle and verify the shimmy condition has been corrected.

Hi All
A Parts guy pm'd me on the following (I'm not a parts guy and I didn't hit the superceedence button & read the narratives) . The 52122362 versions AA through AD tie rod link kit, contain the damper mounting bracket & ubolts that are undersized. (13 mm nuts). If you got this version by purchase or warranty after March 1, 2008 , then you need the upgraded version bracket to 15 mm nuts, which are the same in recall H36 & H46. the newer tie rod link kit
pn 52122362AE is the latest and also has a revised msrp of $313.00. Also the damper is superceeded to pn 52122370AB , msrp stays the same at $143.00.
Jeepstang: Unfortunately that tsb has been kinda derailed. The tie rod end numbers have been cancelled and superceeded to the 52122362ae and damper 52122370ab.
Not to contradict you but the whole discussion is a nightmare for everybody. The TSB procedure can be followed but all the parts will change to the new style and numbers. I don't know if the labor operations will still fly during claim submission. It cannot be used on early 2008 with old style steering. But again the upgraded parts accomplish the same thing. Later 2008's have got all the latest and greatest stuff.
Although death wobble has various root causes in different models & versions, for the narrow discussion of late model trucks, it was more often in the tires(BFG'S with wear) , but sometimes it was the steering components worn or modified. I'd be glad to discuss death wobble in another thread, but to keep everybody focused on steering parts I'll pass on it for this thread.
