Turbo Bark (backfire cough) HELP 911
I keep getting this backfire or cough from the turbo. It occurs while driving at highway speeds the turbo will all the sudden spool up and then you will here a backfire or bark as it has been described. My xrt and dpf delete is still in the box so that would not be the cause. The dealer has reflashed several times, but they just do not have a clue. If they cant read it with a starscan they are worthless. Any clues or has anyone else had this problem. This is turbo # 3 the other two never had this issue. This turbo is one of the so called redesigned ones.

I had that same bark. As soon as my exhaust fell off turbo back and had the intake put in it went away. I think its the DPF. I also had my turbo and exhaust replaced at 45,000 miles though. Two days later my exhaust fell off

Mine did the same thing i went into the dealer last week and they did a manual regen, cleaned the whole system out and it hasn't done it since. I always drive with my cruise on on the highway and it will not regen while in cruise that's why my dpf was very dirty.

It's from the aftermarket air intake. You might not have noticed it when you installed it or not. Mine started the day I put it on and noticed it immediately.
If you search turbo bark, bark, or turbo noise- someone explained what the exact cause was for it, technically speaking. It has something to do with the extra breathability of the aftermarket filter (the stock filter is more restrictive). Mine did it with the Exhause Brake turned on all the time. To eliminate it someone said just unplug the EGR, which I was going to do soon anyway. That solved the issue and I haven't heard it since. Hope that helps!

Turbo Bark.
I got my S&B 3 months after purchase and drove it 35000 miles and never had that symptom., since the most recent turbo replacement was done thats when the issue started. I have had the turbo replaced twice and dpf replaced twice. Never was it a performance issue as far as how the truck ran, just what the dealer did to turn off cel.

My truck does it to. It is not the same kind of bark that you get when you let off the throtle quickly. My truck does it when you are just driving down the interstate with the cruise control on. It will spool up and then slow down. My truck only does if I leave the the key in the run position while the truck isnt running. My truck is also on its 3rd turbo. The last turbo and this one are both after delating everything. It doesnt throw any codes when it does it either.

what year is your truck?
if its an 07.5 maybe you didn't get the newer turbo that the '08s have? Im only speculating, I don't know for sure if there is any difference in turbo's between those years. That may explain why it didn't happen right away with the other turbos.

My truck is an 07.5. Before I did the deletes my truck was doing that all the time. I used to take it to the dealer and what they told me is that when the egr gets all sooted up the butterfly valve opens and slams shut and it would sound like it was backfiring through the turbo. Its a problem all dealerships have seen I am sure. After you do the deletes you will have zero problems

I had this problem when I had my Banks intake. I have had the S&B on for about 6000 km and no problems so far. But it only happend 3 or 4 times in 18000 km before that.

My truck used to do it as soon as I did my cold air intake, 5" TBE, edge. I would be driving up a hill and soon as I got to the top an start lifting on the pedal it would bark. The day I delete my egr and egr cooler it hasn't done it since.
