free egr mod

I found this out when I first got the truck and reading another post made me remember it, I cant get pictures, because my laptop is broken, so i will try to explain real good and you can also refer to egr delete sticky for pictures, this will not cut off all air but I assume around 75% of the air coming from the intake, if you dont have money or resources to make the block off plates this will work for you. What you need to do, is take the top black cover off the top of the engine and looking at it left hand side there is a servo motor there with cables coming out of it going to a wheel, unhook those cables and zip tie the wheel in the closed position, I am not sure off the top of my head but you can unhook the egr tube start the truck and turn and see which way. then next you will need to take the intake horn off pull the 2 screws from the butterfly valve and slide it out, and itstall the intake back on. No need to unplug any of the sensors. when the egr goes to kick on it thinks it opens the exhaust side all the way and thinks it closes the intake side off but it does and it doesnt know that so it wont throw and codes.

So.......Can this be done without deleting the the dpf? In theory, it would result in a clogged up cat a lot quicker, but a cleaner turbo. Has anyone had good results doing this without deleting the dpf?

I would rather have it go into regen more often and not go through the motor then go through the motor and not regen much plus the dpf is made to burn the crap out, I didnt have any problems at all but most of the time I was strait piped with codes before the delete kit came out

Could you just put block off plates between the exhaust maifold and the EGR cooler? In theory this is basicly the same thing but eliminates 100% of soot. Has anyone tried this without gettings CEL's?

your likely to be burning a LOT of fuel as often as you'll be in regen without the dpf delete.

maybe it will regen more but maybe it wont...

The one thing you have to worry about is the Nox filter clogging. If i remember correctly, i remember hearing that it does not need to get near as hot as the DPF to regen, if i remember corrrectly it was only about 800* or so. From what i have seen many ppl run that hot pretty often especially if you have any mods done to the truck.

Of coarse i dont have my pyro hooked up yet so thats just a guess...

whoa whoa whoa whoa, wrong. This servo is a blending valve NOT a flow control valve. If you attempt to wire it one way or another you may in advertently wire it to the HOT side and dump nothing but really hot EGR gasses into the intake, thats bad. Messing with the servo motor in any way will not change the amount of EG recirculated, just the temperature. Imagine pulling up a grade and feeding 1600 degree air into your intake, which would happen because you aren't disconnecting the egr valve or blocking it in any way. That might be sweet to see, not on my truck though.

thats why if you read the post it says to see which way is right and do it that way but if you do it wrong then yes it would be just like haveing the egr open the whole time, thats why you need to check, and yes it is blocking most of it tear into that side and you will see what it does, and how it would work

I have torn into one, and deleted a few coolers myself. The bypass valve is in place so on start up you have the hottest available EGR flow. Once the truck warms up it cycles closed and never moves again until the truck cools all the way off. Wiring it to the "closed" side would just be wiring it so it pulls from the cooler all the time. It doesn't limit the flow in any way it just diverts the flow either from direct manifold or through the cooler.

I get what your saying but it doesnt close all the way so it doesnt matter if doing this or not it will still go into the intake, this just puts less into the intake
