Is there anyone here who has gotten in trouble......
after installing the DPF and/or EGR deletes? I am very close to doing these but wonder what the penalties are if you get caught by the feds. I know there are stiff penalties for tampering with emissions equipment but has anyone used the "My truck kept running like crap until I removed that stuff" defense and gotten away without too much hassle?

These aren't the first trucks or first time someone has messed with emissions. Anytime someone added an exhaust without a muffler that was an EPA violation. In High School I got nailed in my truck but it was just a "fix it ticket". You really have to piss off the police or they really need to know what to look for in order to get harrassed about the emissions.

Keep looking and you will find someone... I read a thread on either CF, DTR, or TDR about a guy who was pulled over and the cop told him "your truck sure is smoking a lot for being so new". Cop got Feds involved and this guy got major fines. $$$$
I'm planning on doing the code free kit along with the EGR plates so hopefully my truck won't smoke anymore than it does now. I do not want to get a programmer or Edge box if I don't have to...

the cops around here have better things to do then waste time pulling people over for their exhaust, but if ur truck smokes alot they'll ask u to get a lightfoot.
I can't view it but Im sure it is a bit of an exaggeration. My friend once told everybody that he got pulled over for excessive smoke and the EPA fined him $10,000 but he really just got a fix it ticket. I highly doubt the feds got involved

Here is a cut and paste of the post. It is a free country so everyone is free to believe it or not. I am just trying to give some info to the original poster.
*Funny jeleg should ask about the fine for no DPF. While at Palm Springs Thousand Trails I talked to a man who removed his DPF & was stoped by the CHP who in turn called the Feds. In all it cost him over $5000.00 in fines towing & storage + he kissed his engine warranty goodbye. Before he could drive it again he had to have it towed to a Dodge dealer & had to have all the DPF replaced. He told me that he didn't want to say what that cost. He asked the CHP officer why he stopped him & his answer was for as new a truck as his was it put out to much smoke when he increased his speed. I do know I did see the ticket he got & the reciept's for the fines & towing. He also said that the CHP is looking for this as they know people are doing this to their trucks. So I guess it is beware.*
i call bull unless its personal exp.......id say throw it in the scrap pile and never look back.....going down the road the averave cop cant tell a 08 from a 03.....thats just me when i can afford a 6.7 that will be the first thing to go:thumbsup
