I heard somewhere that it doesn't come activated on the manual tranny trucks.

Heres a dumb question but how do I get my high idle to work if it even have it? It is a 6 speed auto. My pup has a PTO idle program but I never tried it and thought it might work the same but I have no clue. Let me know what you guys think.
To get the high idle to work you turn on your cruise, hit set and it should idle to 1200 RPMs. You can run it up to 1500 RPMs by hitting the resume/accl button.
I know that on the 5.9 it was something that needed to be turned on whether it was a manual or an automatic.
Autos just need it turned on in the computer and manuals have to have a clutch switch installed. The switch on the clutch grounds to a pin on the ECM. It's a safety thing so when the clutch is pressed it ungrounds and turns the high idle off. On the 5.9 you can do a mod so you don't have to spend $108 for the switch from cummins or $300 from the dealer. You spend $12 and get a tap for the ECM from the cummins dealer. install that tap in pin #22 and then run it to a ground.
Yes it works for the 6.7. Good job, Dieselguy8599! I was trying to hunt down the info on the safety switch. Glad you already knew it!

After seeing a few different threads about the High Idle I have put together some instructions on doing it the cheaper way. I know for fact that this will work on 06 and 07 5.9 motors and I've heard that it will also work on the 07+ 6.7 motor. I'm not sure about the 05.
Here is what you need to do if you have a manual to save a few bucks.
You have to order a pig tail connector to tap into the ECM connector. You can get it from any Cummins Dealer for $12.72. The part # is 3824810 and it looks like this:
All you need to do the install on pin #22 is Part #3824810 from your local Cummins dealer, a 10mm wrench to undo the ground right next to the ECM plug, a 4mm alan wrench to undo the ECM conector, a 5 inch piece of black wire, a small size ring terminal, a crimper and a paper clip.
*** You may want to disconnect the Batteries before starting this process ***
Step 1: Undo the ECM connector from the ECM using the 4MM alan wrench. In my pictures (See Link at the bottom of the post) I am looking down from the driver side standing at the driver side headlight. The connector is on the driver side of the motor. If memory serves me, The ECM looks like a rectangle box that is attached to the motor. It doesn't look like it is part of the motor at all.
Step 2: Using the paper clip, Push it through PIN #22 from the engine side to get the little orange rubber plug out. Here is a diagram of the ECM Connector:
Step 3: Remove the 10mm nut from the ground, You'll see the ground right next to the where the connector plugs into the ECM.
Step 4: Connect the Black wire to the cummins part you bought. Connect the ring terminal to the other side.
Step 5: Push the pin on the cummins part into port #22 on ECM wire harness. Should be to the right of a black wire on the connector. Keep pushing till you hear a click and feel the pin seat itself into the connector. Gently pull back on the wire to see if it snapped in.
Step 6: Connect the Ring terminal to the ground.
Step 7: Go to Dealer and have them charge you up the wazoo to enable the software. ( Dealer ended up only charging me $22.00)
If you download my pictures and zoom in you will see exactly which "hole" is PIN #22. Also, see diagram above.
If I can do this anyone can. I had my buddy stand by and watch just to make sure that I wasn't breaking anything. By doing this mod I save myself $108 for the clutch switch from Cummins or $307 for the clutch switch from the dealer. all the clutch switch is, is a ground that when you press in on the clutch it ungrounds and turns off the high idle. It's a safety feature that keeps someone from putting it in gear while it's idling at 1500 RPMs.
i know on my 6.7 when its cold the high idle comes on by itself.

They are referring to the PTO high idle not the cold high idle.
I'm going to bring it up with the dealer when I go in for the G30 on Friday - should be interesting to see what they say and how much of a hassle it will be.

Shouldn't be to much of a hassle. Just tell them that you want the fast idle or "High Idle" turned on. If they play dumb tell them that the tech can do it with the Starscan! They don't like it when you walk in their and tell them what they can do with their own equipment!
Most are having a hard time finding it in the Starscan. They moved it from where it was on the 5.9's. Its in the enable/disable features in a different section then where all the other stuff like seat belt chimes and headlight delays are.
