so i just read thru nine pages and couldnt get confirmation that this will work on an 03. anybody know? thanks, good write up awesome
no, it won't work on an '03. you have to ground a pin in the ecm, and for the life of me i can't remember which one right now. try search, and hopefu;;y i'll remember after i my brain wakes up.
Anyone have the cummins part# for the clutch safty switch? I want this feature but with the kids bouncing around the cab I better get it.
Grounding the ECM does essentially the same thing as the clutch safety switch. Neither one keep kids from slamming the shifter into gear, and thats the greatest threat. But really how often do the kids climb around the cab with the engine running?
You have a good point AH they are never alone. The wife and I are much more likely to knock it around. I thought maybe also getting the switch would alow me to keep my warranty and have the high idle this winter. I recenly had the truck in the dealer and asked about turning it on. The print out they gave me says it is only avalible for automatic trans.

The run around begins.
Yes its only for autos becuase of the safety factor of kicking it into gear... But my dealership enabled mine pre-Smarty.
This is my first diesel, so please forgive the dumb questions; but why the high idle? Second, the local 4X shop said that I should see some improvement in mileage and power with a DPF back 4inch exhaust. It sounds no different without the muffler (? the last muffler looking thing on the exhaust) I have an 08 crewcab 2500 with Airaid CAI, Bully Dog PMT and AFE exhaust. I want the truck to be optimized. It appears that there are two different 6 speed autos, I have the 68rfe, what are the differences? I have been told that the 68rfe is made by Allison (like what the GM trucks brag about) Thanks for any info, guyd

It allows you to manually bump up the idle, which will decrease time to warm up in winter, decrease cool down time when towing (If I am towing and stop somewhere and don't want to shutdown I always go to 1100), makes the a/c more efficient if you stop in the summer for a few minutes; and in really cold weather will increase the combustion temp enough to keep the cylinders from washing from unburnt fuel.
Ok I posted this somewhere before but cant seem to find it. Anyways for the 6.7 with a man. tranny you have to ground a green wire under the dash ( safty switch is on it for the auto's) anyways you ground that wire then you have to go to the dealer and have them activate it with there computer unless you have a smarty because it activates it automaticly.. anyways here are some pics to better understand the one wire that is chilling out under there by its self. Its easy to find, its up behind and above the clutch pedal kinda in with a bunch of other wires...
And this is how I grounded mine
