Let's discuss Smarty revo settings....Torque Management

I guess since most of us know what the timing and vgt settings do for making power I want to discuss what the torque management settings actually manipulate on these trucks. I understand that the higher the setting the faster it builds torque....that's a given. I want to know whats being changed that makes the truck build the torque faster. I am pretty sure that each torque management setting is adding more fuel to the equation but it has to be doing more than that...I notice the higher torque setting I use the higher my cruising egts are....Or is it just extra fueling and I am thinking to hard about it.

it all about the converter, put two fans in front off one another, turn on the rear one, the faster it spins the more it pushes the front, now slide them closer together, this is torgue managment, for the simple mind, you can only adjust about 40 percent of the total from the ecm, that is where the tcm comes in .. torgue managment just adjust the vane angle inside the converter to make it drive the output shaft sooner.

It would be nice if the vanes in the TC were adjustable but that is not the case right now.

AFAIK torque management is just looking at the output from the tranny and keeping the fuel within certain limits. That is designed to save the tranny. In Smarty the higher the TM number the more it ignores the limits.

That would be like having a Hydrostatic Transmission.

probably should have sat on that explanation for a bit bud. Ok back on topic can we get an answer to the question I like undersatnding as much of the whys and hows my truck does stuff to. Where is MARCO have not seen him in a while. MARCO??????? No polo needed

here is my limited understanding of TM. TM will defuel the engine when certain boost, RPM, and speed parameters are not met. If the boost/RPM/speed are under certain levels the motor will not fuel to 100% until the proper conditions are reached. Adjusting TM will decrease the amount of Defueling done thus bringing the power on at even lower rpm and air flow levels

My understanding of Torque Management is that it is the rate at which the ECM adds fuel up to whatever the demanded level is.

Here is a quick graph showing my understanding. The numbers are completely arbitrary. They are just there to represent my understanding.

I thought all it did was to change the sensitivity of the fly-by-wire signal associated with the skinny pedal...

thats what i thought. example on a stock sw
setting, skinny pedal is at 50% you are getitng
50% fueling, but when tqm is increased you now
have 50% throttle, and maybe 75% fueling
i know when you turn tqm up, you can really tell
that the throttle gets touchy.

I don't think so, because on TM-2 you can be easing into the throttle and when it hits a certain RPM you can really feel the power kick in. It is like fuel was just automatically added all at once.
