Bite the bullet

After reading a lot of the posts here I have realized that I have become infected.... I am going to start over.... There is a shop here that will do a full delete setup with a Black Max for $2050, installed. Does that sound reasonable? He states that it will give me 275HP and much better mpg. It will also smoke, being new to the oil burning crowd, what is the significance of smoking? Thanks.

you could save your self 500 plus doing it your self. black smoke is wasted fuel. and 275 hp... youd need allot more then deletes and tuner for 275 more hp. sorry bud. BUT once you do exhaust you WILL get better mpg and help your motor out immensely

Does that include the EGR and cooler deletes? As far as I know the Black Maxx only goes up to 175 so far. That price sounds pretty average. He's charging several hundred bucks for labor depending on what type of delete pipe/kit they are putting on. I would recommend doing it yourself just for the fact that you'll learn more about your truck. That's up to you though. If you are close to Monette, AR I could probably help you out with it. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Do it yourself, I just did mine with a Smarty and it was pretty easy. Took about 3 hours to do it by myself and on a scale of 1-10 I'd say the difficulty level was about a 3.

joelackey,
Yea man, just do it yourself, you actually learn a lot when you and a buddy get it done. A little bond time with the mechanics of your truck is pretty fun and gets addictive and saves you money. I wouldn't have even given it a thought to have someone else do it and I didn't exactly know what I was doing, but I knew I could get the job done, and done right. Plus if you ever need or want to take it back off at least you will know how.
Just my two cents,
Mike

What kind of exhaust was he going to do? Does that include like 5" stainless steel or something? You can make your own delete pipe and do it yourself for less than 100 bones. And yea, bullsh!t on the 275hp! The Black Maxx's highest level is a 175hp tune and I doubt you would see even close to that much of a gain with an otherwise stock truck (lift pump, cp3, tranny, etc.)

I wish I could do it myself, I always worked on my own rigs. I had some bad luck in while I was in the Army in 2007and now have rods in my back and 49 inches of scars. The VA sent me to the Mayo Clinic and after 1.6 million (not a typo!) but I am 100% disabled. I am lucky I can walk but working on my own rig is just not possible any more. I am at a mechanics mercy..... Thanks guys for the info. I did speak with the shop and he told me 175 hp not 275. MY

Well I think we can all understand. You would be doing if you had the option. Be sure to get yourself a Good intake. I would get a AFE system, I have a Mega Cannon and I like it alot also. But once you get everything on your truck you probably be sitting around 420hp and 875ftlbs. give or take on those numbers also. Advertise numbers generally are a bit high so don't take them to heart.

Black Smoke is incomplete combustion. Burnt fuel that was not turned into power.
