H&S XRT or Smarty - New Questions

Hey guys,

I have been searching all of the posts about the XRT and the Smarty as I am finally ready to start ordering the parts to perform the deletes but I still have a couple of questions.

1. Why does the XRT list for $799 and the Smarty comes in at $685? The Smarty seems to have more adjustability and quicker uploading times but H&S have amazing customer service. Is there more to why H&S's price is so much more?

2. Do I have to install a Fuel Rail Shim Kit if I go with the Smarty? H&S says that it is a must with the XRT.

Let me know your thoughts guys, any help would be appreciated.

Also if it helps, I don't plan to go crazy with the HP at this time. I plan to stick to the 60HP or under tunes.

Thanks Guys!

I really wish i could help you with question 1....but I think it's just a matter of that's what the price was set at, and both are selling pretty good, and they're both excellent products....so, I guess they figured just stick with it. know what I mean?

2.) Didn't know it was a must...I know it is recommended for the higher tunes (175 hp+). Been told the Smarty seems to run a little better with fuel-plug. I've been meaning to get one of those, just haven't had the time or money.

I think for towing you might like the Smarty a bit better b/c of the adjustability factor....but the XRT is kinda nice just to be able to install pre-set tunes and forget it. The Smarty is ALOT faster on my truck to install than the XRT was...but that's b/c they do different methods as far as programming the ECM. I can't remember what exactly...but something like the Smarty alters your stock tune, and the XRT removes it...saves it....then installs H&S's tune. And that's why it takes so long for the XRT.

If I'm wrong, I appologize...Hopefully someone will jump in to correct me.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

AMM

That's a first for me. I'm running mine fine without any shims.

As for price not sure but this is my theory. Mads (Smarty) has been around for some time with their products on the market. H&S is a relatively new company, gotta pay for R&D.

1- Heck the XRT was $999 when it was first released. (sorry for the salt AMM) Difference in price, simple capitolism at work. Each company sets their own prices. The market will cause adjustments.

2-Based on your statement of lower power settings, No shims required.

AMM pretty much covered the high points in his post.
Both are great products.
2 major factors as I see it:
Smoke- If you want smoke then XRT. Little to no Smoke the Smarty
Tinker/Ronco method- If you want adjustability at your disposal, the Smarty. "Set it and forget it" the XRT.

Don't forget having to pay for over-head as well. That is what kills most new companies is getting in up to their eyeballs.

Thanks for all of the great info guys.

It makes sense that the fuel shim wouldn't be needed for the lower tunes but I was concerned because the H&S website just makes a blanket statement, thanks for clearing that one up.

I guess it really does come down to each person's own preference and what mods they plan to do down the road.

There is a great price on an XRT in the classifieds from a fellow member. You save some money and help a member out at the same time.
