tranny

larryTX07,

I feel your pain about the decision.

I'm waiting for Dave Goerend to complete his research before I chose his. As we speak, his converter is being tested at the track.

Check the warranty on both if you want to choose right now. I've heard some horror stories on getting a repair.

Unless you absolutely need a tranny right now I would wait it out.

Suncoast doesnt guarantee anything in their "built tranny" to hold up to anything more than 500 HP except for the Torque Converter.. I didnt know ATS was making anything for the 68RFE... just checked and it looks like its just a Torque Converter, just like Suncoast.. So, uhmm... i dunno if its really worth 5-7k just for an upgraded Torque Converter and some minimal internal work which is only said to withstand up to 500 HP... I'm actually on my 3rd 68RFE in 46,000 miles, keep blowing them up ... oh well.. warranty seems to keep replacing them.. lol

My ATS has held up to alot. Edge(gauges only)..Smarty(#9,with all settings on 4)..MP-8(25 to 50%) I run the truck very hard, powerbreaking, 4x4 boostlaunch's and a little bit of trailer towing. Not shure how they back there warranty and I hope to never find out. Good luck on ur decision.

If you can do the job yourself go ahead and get the sun coast parts. Looked pretty solid during the rebuild of mine. Shifts real firm, maybe even a little to firm. Especially after the TCU update by Dodge.
I didn't see any options where ATS can do anything different with 5th and 6th gears. As far as HP #s. I believe that with Sun Coast's Sprag
this tranny can handle what ever I throw at it off the line. 5th and 6th remain to be seen.

for you people with the ATS transmissions...

What kind of power are you putting down?

I have been running his twin disc converter for some time now, I guess I put it in last year, can't remember when. But the TC are not the problem once you get one in. Sun Coast or Dave Goerends, you can't go wrong with either one.
