Diesel Fumes coming from HVAC

This morning when I left for work my HVAC system was pouring diesel fumes smells through the ducts. It smelled like raw burnt diesel bad. I had to shut the heat off it was so bad. I tried all settings on the heater like floor, chest, and defroster. They all smelled. Then after about 35 miles it was cold and fogging up so I had to turn the defroster back on. It smelled for a few seconds bad, but then got less and less with each second until it was normal. So I ran it like that the rest of the way.

I got my daughter dropped off at school, and then tried the heater on High with and without recirculate on. It as well cleared up the smell.

This morning I started the truck to warm like I have for all my trucks, and this is the first time it has happened on anything. Any ideas what has happened?

I have seen some gaskets fail on the EGR cooler. Check the one at the rear to see if the nuts are tight. Sometimes you can see some carbon build up if it is leaking also. It could be a cracked EGR cooler or manifold.

I called my dealer, which is excellent and they have not heard of this before, and will look at it tomorrow. I told them I would check it today on the way home to see if it happens again. Who knows?

Thanks I will look as well.

I'd check over the cooler area. I've heard of the gaskets leaking and coolers cracking.
