Projector and HID Questions

Hi Folks-

I have HID lights on my daily driver, an Acura CL. The HID setup is just superior to the lights in my truck - a 2008 Ram. I throw a usable light way down the road versus the truck. My high beams on the truck are really a joke - they don't give me an increase in down road visibility.

I have to admit, the HID / Projector threads here add more questions than answers for me most of the time.

Question: Would it not be best to buy HID's within projector headlight replacements? The projector type headlights in the Acura have a very distinct cutoff to help out the people who are meeting me on the road - the cutoff really does not affect my ability to see down the road - but I bet it does really save those meeting me. Based on what I have learned here, if you just put HID's retrofit into your stock headlights, you will be throwing a nasty light towards those on the road with you - right?

I'm in Oregon and we get a lot of rain in the winter with roads that don't have well marked lanes - the lanes are not painted with stripes on the outside and center stripe. As I've rounded the 50-year old corner - I find I need better lights at night, but really do not want to blind those folks on the road with me.

What are the options? Is there a plug & Play setup with both projector type lenses and HID powered lights?

Again, I will read your explanations, so please describe in as much detail as possible what you are explaining. This stuff just isn't intuitive for me. I get the feeling there are a bunch of people making a lot of money off folks like me who don't understand the dynamics of the issue. If you have researched and found the secrets of this issue, I would really appreciate your assistance.

Thanks,

RiverRunner

a lot of projectors do not have the depth to do a HID replacement, but I guess there are some that you can.

from what i underdtand, HID have a shallower cut off then a halogen, but noine the less, you will never outrun your light. they are real bright, and you can choose the color you want via the amount of K you choose. most guys i see do the HID replacement and are more then happy. To do a projector and HID, would cost a lot more, so if money is an issue. When it comes to other motorists, you will not have a light bright enough that it will drive them off the road, as long as you use your courtesy and they do what they are supposed to do, all should be well. I live in a area where there is lots of big wild life on the highway, and feel much more comfortable to have a light that shows me everything, even if it does irritate some motorists. Its my safety, and the safety of my family i am the most concerned with. there are special digital HID kits that our trucks need to run, otherwise you will get a lamp out on your dash, and they might flicker. hope some of this helps, Im sure others will chime in

MATTIAC,

Thanks for the reply.

Are you saying that the HID's installed in our stock headlight assembly will have a sharper cutoff than stock such that they will not blind oncoming traffic?

I thought you had to get a projector housing to accomplish getting the light to go only where it is supposed to go. Isn't the goal of projectors to focus the light just and only where you want it?

HID's in the stock housing will produce a lot more usable light than halogens and if properly aimed you won't have problems with blinding on coming traffic. Before I had the ram I had HID's in my BMW and I know what you mean about how much better the light is. I installed the HID Solutions kit in my truck for both headlights and fog lights and haven't looked back since!

I also want the hid lights, my stock ones suck. Question though, I have a toggle switch that changes from truck lights to snow plow lights will this hid option work for me?
I like what hid solutions has to offer. Just would like to know before I order them
Thanks in advance

How difficult is the installation of an HID kit, I have rolled the idea around also, but I got a little disappointed in hearing about the flickering problems and it kind of turned me away from it. I suppose it's all about the kit that you buy, but I have been wondering lately if it was a difficult installation.
