Well that certainly sucks!!

So I finally get all wound up and decide to ditch the DPF today. I stopped at the hardware store and bought some wire for the pot, everything else I've had for weeks. I dinked around the farm doing odd jobs all day, planning on doing this when I was done. Finally around 5:00 tonight I got started.

I rolled the creeper under the truck and finally saw the EGT probes that I've read so much about. Now it all makes sense. I think to myself, "All I have to do is cut the wires, attach the new ones, take out a few bolts, remove a clamp and it's gone." Sweet, nothing to it.

I ran back in the house to chek the threads on "how to" just to make sure. "Yep, that's it. Cool!" Head back out to the shop to get started.

I look at the DPF which I had originally planned on cutting out. "Well, that's just dumb. No reason to cut anything. It's new enough and nothing looks rusted."

"Uh oh! This thing is longer than I planned". Sure enough, the leftover pipe I have is too short. Way to short. It would work if I cut the DPF out, but that doesn't make any sense when it's all nice and bolted together.

$@^@!!!!

Gotta wait another week. Maybe I should just order the EGR plates and do it all at once...hmm not a bad idea.

Looks like your going the right direction but I would not cut any wires. Buy some splice connectors.

I thought it looked from the pics here that the wires were cut, maybe not I guess. I have some T-taps that I planned on using. How does the pot override the probe if the probe is still hooked up?

I have located the 4" tubing but I can't find the 4" flanges. Every exhaust shop out here only has up to 3"

I fabricated my own flange because none of the exhaust shops had anything close to the three bolt flange around here. Also so you know, the flange on the down pipe that you bolt to is not square to the truck. Meaning that you don't want to weld the new flange squared to your replacement pipe and just bolt it up to the flange on the down pipe. If you do this, the end of your replacement pipe to slide into the tail pipe will not match up.

I left my sensors and the pressure tubes in the DPF. Doing it that way I can have the DPF back in the truck in 30 minutes by myself.

I got everything off, quit for the night in the middle of finishing the flange. I need someone (dad) who is better with a welder than I am to finish it.

Anyways...I started the truck with everything off and no pot on yet. Not as loud as one might think. If I up the RPM with the cruise controlled idle, I get what might be the skillsaw sound that I've heard about. Not really sure though. Only big surprise was the smell. With nothing more than a down pipe, it smelled about the same as my '04.5 did when the cat was still there. I'm guessing that's the EGR causing the smell???

Should get it done tomorrow.

in the downpipe. That's why the smell. On edit I "think" it is I forgot you had a C&C. I know thats the setup for the non-C&c trucks.

I give up

I quit. Got the Wiring into the cab, got my flange made and bolted up, grabbed the flexpipe and the connectors and that's as far as I got. I managed to half- the flexpipe into place, but it wasn't rigid enough to hold my tailpipe in place. The tailpipe would drop and the muffler went up. Didn't have any other pipe I could use so I'm screwed until next week when I can get parts. Screw that, I need the truck monday so now it's all back together just the way it was yesterday before I started.

That's twice I've tried to do this and this time I was 95% done and had to turn back. Next time, if there is one, will be with a delete kit.

What did everybody else do to get the tailpipe to stay put? It still had 4 of the 5 hangers in place and everything. I'd never have guessed it would move but it was like it was hanging on 1 hanger.
