After running my 4.88 geared 5500 for 24,000 miles I am extremely skeptical of mileage reports over 13. I get 7-12, stock, with egr unplugged.

If you look at the mods in my signature then you might see that it is possible to get better than "stock" milage with a 6.7L truck. My overhead reads 18.8 mpg and that ends up being 15.5 actual. You gotta do more than deletes to really increase the mileage with these.

My overhead reads 22 to 24 with cruise set on 70mph, but I am getting around 17.

I still can not see how he can be getting better than fuel mileage then me with having 4.88 gears and weighing almost 5-k more than I do unloaded. Hell my 2000 F-550 with 4.88's with tons of extras and a 6speed only get 14@65mph.

Thanks for the info I ordered a MP-8 today. I also wanted to know if anybody knows why dodge put such a small intercooler on the 4500, would it be a good thing to upgrade to a stock 2500 or 3500. Thanks Dareld.

They want the truck to run hot so the EGR & DPF function better. The pickups got the same intercooler as the C&C did in 09 so you need a older version or aftermarket to increase capacity.

My goal with MPG is to put 20 MPG w/o wind and run 22.5 wheels.... the big issue is 4.88.. after 100km/h is not easy to keep it. I think the 4.88 are so low even in 30% mountain with nice load in the trailer... So if we have guy pulling 30k with 3500 3.73 ... SO buddies let get some $$$$$$ overpower those 6.7 with those big DANA.... and get 22.5 direct bolt...

So would 22.5 wheels make the 4.88's into 4.44's or 4.10's?

I think that I will get rid of my 2500 4x4 sport and get a 4500 with a bed conversion, I am waiting until the speed limiter is corrected. I am going to remedy the weight problem by adding a 500-800 gallon custom flat tank in the truck bed.

I have the wander problem with my truck too, I understand lots of Dodges have this problem. A steering stabilizer bar is about the only way to fix it.

I'm surprised you have 4.88 on your 4500. If you had the 4.44 gears you might get 2mpg better...

I'm running a 07 3500, G56, QCab.
I'm thinking of trading up to a 4500 with an auto.

Here's my question:
Those of you that have the 4500 or 5500 with the auto.
1) What gears do you have.
2) Whats your RPM say at 65 MPH.
3) When you are loaded ( pulling a trailer) do you just shift into DRIVE or O/D and go, or do you have to drive in a lower gear.

G56 w 4.44s knocking out 14-14.4 MPG empty with the truck weighing just under 10K lbs empty. Only basic deletes. I have the good stuff waiting for install and hoping to get just under 20MPG running empty. Lots of toys in waiting for install when the engine finishs the break in period.
