Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time,
But always enough time to do it again?

That is true to a point. it is distilled though not the same as far as solvency is concerned.

Does anyone know if the acetone and diesel will separate?

After 20 mins of 3/4 red diesel and 1/4 acetone in this coke bottle (no advertisement here) all it's done was turn it hazy and somewhat thinner.

Interesting discussion. Chemical compatability also has to be tested under dynamic conditions, as well as a bunch of other mechnical tests - just letting it sit in there in a jar for a couple of days won't tell you anything. You have to test for the particular application and develop tests to model long term application and suitability.

Don't know what the seals, o-rings etc. on a Dodge truck are made of but here is a chemical compatibility chart for O-rings and acetone. If the seals contain any natural rubber it will probably not be compatible under dynamic conditions.
eFunda: O-Ring Materials Compatibile with Chemical Acetone

But I don't know if those seals contain any natural rubber - I think benzene is even less chemically compatible with natural rubber than acetone...

Let that set for a day or so, just curious. Thanks

I even let it sit in the sun all this morning and it cleared up. It looked like it cut a tiny bit of water out of the fuel and settled it to the bottom. Though it may of just been the condensation inthe top of the bottle from sitting overnight. Going to cut up different oring and seal materials and drop them in and leave it out in the sun to waht happens.

Realize too that your mix ratio is 25% acetone. The recommended mix ratio's I've seen are more like 2 oz acetone to 10 gal diesel.... Just enough to break surface tension. This equates to just a hair over 1/10th of 1% (on a volume basis) of acetone in the fuel mixture.
