2010 California smog.

I received a letter from the California Air Resources Board offering me $500 to inspect my truck. Took the day off from work for CARB to check out my 2007.5 6.7 Cummins for an hour. When I got the truck back I asked why is California shelling out $500 just to look at a truck. He told me that CARB is preparing procedures for the upcoming 2010 diesel smog tests. He wasn't sure if they could work it all out by 2010 but he assured me that smogging diesels is a done deal. BTW, my truck is a special ordered single rear wheel one ton with a 10,100 GVWR.

Hope you guys kept all that expensive smog equipment because it sounds like you might have to put it all back together.
I was hoping to bomb my truck one day.

Interesting, also interesting that you're in the 10,000lb+ GVWR class as everything I've read to date specifies 8,500 and under GVWR for smog checking; time to go muddle around on the various state websites again - or just wait for my notice in the mail and bolt the clean stuff back on.

I received a similar letter a few months ago but they only wanted to give me a $50 fuel card and I had to have more than 5000 miles on the vehicle.

What about all the talk that California style emissions testing is supposed to be adopted by most of the western states? So far everyone just seems to assume that these requirements will stay in Cali. But here in AZ the governor has indicated that we are going to follow California requirments soon.

I got the same letter/offer ($500) for my 2004 Mustang Mach1. When asked they told me it was routine, but they had to make compensations to their testing for the factory ram air induction on the car. I told them I would not consent to be part of what I consider to be Fascist oversight.

In short, it looks like they are preparing tests for the diesels as well.

Maria's #1 guy.

Maria Shriver is running Arnold's life now. He's just a "yes" man to the liberal agenda. Guy sure has changed since I helped vote him in. He's still nothing like Grey Davis whom we had before.

AB1488 is the official Assembly Bill that covers emissions testing of diesels in California for those who want to look it up and study it - it is very difficult to read and make sense of.

Quote:
44011. (a) All motor vehicles powered by internal combustion
engines that are registered within an area designated for program
coverage shall be required biennially to obtain a certificate of
compliance or noncompliance, except for the following:
(1) All motorcycles until the department, pursuant to Section
44012, implements test procedures applicable to motorcycles.
.
.
.
(6) All motor vehicles that the department determines would
present prohibitive inspection or repair problems.
(7) Any vehicle registered to the owner of a fleet licensed
pursuant to Section 44020 if the vehicle is garaged exclusively
outside the area included in program coverage, and is not primarily
operated inside the area included in program coverage.
(8) (A) All diesel-powered vehicles manufactured prior to the 1998
model-year.
(B) All diesel-powered vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight
rating of 8,501 to 10,000 pounds, inclusive, until the department, in
consultation with the state board, pursuant to Section 44012,
implements test procedures applicable to these vehicles.

Looks like this is going to be made a federal program, whereby Califonia will NOT be allowed to add any of it's own parameters as it has done in the past. Of course, the greenies in CA are going nutz in protest, but too bad.

You say that like it's a good thing. I could care less about the people's republic of california, and our state doesn't test. If the feds start testing it will be a step backwards for most of the country.

agreed! I think there would be quite a revolt if the fed got their hands in this fight though.
