Sr. Manager for HD Dodge Trucks & CC program contact info

I wrote Scott Kunselman a while back complaining about the horrible MPG that we are getting out of our 6.7's. Here is the response that I received. But i figured I would pass this on to those of you that would also like to complain about it. I am not sure if we should let them know about the DPF deletes but I am sure they are aware that we are able to remove them.

Matt Popp,

I understand from Scott Kunselman that you are an owner of a 6.7L MegaCab. According to your repair history and your letter, you've had some issues with the aftertreatment system and turbocharger. We truly apologize for any inconvenience these issues have caused you. Your letter also states that your are unhappy about the fuel economy of your 6.7L vs. the 5.9L. In an effort to better understand your vehicle, I would like to ask a few questions regarding your typical drive cycle. I'm interested in: the number of hwy vs. city miles; average number of miles traveled per trip; vehicle loading and terrain that you normally drive.

Please feel free to email or call me at the number below.

Thanks Matt.

Regards,

Kevin Mets

Wow! You should ask him how the truck needs to be driven for it to work propperly. It seems like they did their testing for an ideal situation for the exhaust system not for the traditional way in which pickup trucks get used. We just need to keep the pressure on them to do the right thing. Thanks for writing to them and for posting the reponse!

The more I think about the response from Kevin Mets to your letter; I understand why these trucks don't work right. What a stupid response!!!

Matt, whatever is wrong with your truck is your fault. You should know that by now. These are all consumer-based issues. Why do you think they want to know your drive cycles? Not going uphill? Probably had a head wind. Were you using the brake pedal as a foot rest? What could you possibly say that wouldn't implicate you and your inexperience in driving a modern diesel?

Of course I'm tongue in cheek here, but not about the drive cycles. They'll find a way to turn it around to make it an operator error.

I complained to Chrysler Customer Service, they asked that I call which I did. Then they proceeded to tell me they couldn't help me and it would have to be handled at the dealer level. Then they asked me, "is there anything else I can help you with"? To say I was frustrated after that would be an understatement.

I bet your warranty is voided after they come here and see what you've done to your truck

Wouldn't be the first time that's happened

I am not trying to get warranty work done or anybody to look at my truck. I was just pointing out to DC Head people that we are aware that they really screwed up with the 6.7. I thought they just need to know that we know they are idiots and really shot them self in the foot with the After Treatment system. Tomorrow I should be getting a call from Kevin, I am looking forward to what he has to say.

Thanks for the email info matt. I sent him a letter lets see what is said. Everyone should flood this guy with emails of this nature to try to get them to allow the mods on our trucks emition system without voiding the whole warranty

Subject: 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel

Dear Mr. Mets,

I am writing to you to discuss an issue that I am sure you are very well aware of by now. As you know there is a problem with the exhaust recirculation system on the new 6.7L Turbo Diesel’s causing the stock turbo system to get constantly clogged with soot build up. The stock DPF filter has also been reported to have been getting clogged. Both of the above conditions have been repeatedly experienced by the majority of new dodge owners. Before it is brought up yes we have all been told how we are supposed to drive the vehicle to avoid this situation, but sorry doesn’t work. Only uses MORE fuel which is beginning to get very costly.

The majority of owner’s that are having the issues love their trucks minus these problems which Dodge has only given band aid fixes. I bought my truck a couple months ago and only drove it 2 months before deploying to Iraq. In those 2 months I had to take my brand new 50K+ dollar truck in to get the turbo cleaned 2 times. That is absurd. Also per your own owners manual it states to change the oil in the truck at 7500 mile intervals. Why then have I changed mine 3 times in 8000 miles?

Now to the purpose of this letter. There is a select few vendors who sell exhaust kits for our trucks that eliminate the DPF. What I and many other would like to propose is to allow these modifications and still keep the warranty on the remainder of the vehicle, Which by the warranty manual that came with the truck states it will not void the whole warranty only that of the stock exhaust. Dealers are voiding the whole warranty thou to avoid warranty covered repairs.

These modifications will benefit the owners as much as the dealers and dodge. The owners will get better fuel economy (what dodge was know for with the 5.9) and less trips to the dealer for turbo or DPF cleanings. It will benefit dodge by them no longer needing to spend time and money to clean and or replace sooted up turbo’s and DPF’s. Another supporting factor is that the DPF system has been listed on some peoples vehicle invoice, (window sticker) as OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT which we were charged $995 for. There is no possible negative effects to the motor or drive train or the vehicle with these items removed. It pretty much makes the engine the same as the well trusted 5.9L with a little bigger displacement.

I hope that we can resolve this situation with the modification stuff, I and many others truly love or trucks but don’t trust them, many have or are thinking of lemon lawing their truck. Not good for either you or us we loose our trucks you loose customers and reputation, which with the 5.9 was awesome. The whole reason I bought dodge. Once again I would like to reiterate that these mods will cause no mechanical problems; there will actually be less work on both parts for costly repairs. Both future and present costs.

I would like to thank you Kevin for your time and hope that you see our position on this dilemma.

Very Respectfully,
