Damn P2000 code

Maybe someone can help me out. I might be overlooking something. For the 3rd time my 6.7 had the check engine light on again. It's only 1 1/2 months old with 1450 miles on it. So thursday I dropped it off at the dealer so they see what is wrong. So when I picked the truck up, again they told me they cleaned the O2 sensor and cleared the codes per the TSB. Driving on the highway damn light came on again. The first time is can on when I was backing out of a parking lot. The second time was when I was driving on the highway around 55 and the third time was 2 days after I picked it up from the dealer. I was also in the highway traveling at 65. What am I doing wrong? Is it me or is it the truck? 3 times in Alaska it's a lemon. Talking to my dealer they are going to call Chrysler and see. I told them if Chrysler buys it back, I'll take the silver one they have there. I'll give them a 2nd chance.

I had a P2000 on my 2008 6.7 at 1200 miles on the odometer. The dealer I took it to cleaned the O2 sensors and blamed me for "prolonged idling." I responded by blaming Dodge for a poorly designed emissions system and challenged them to admit it. The diesel tech shook his head and told me that he had to say that. I use the high idle function on my truck anytime I need to idle it. Beyond that...I just don't care what Dodge thinks. Do they seriously think that they can sell a truck with a huge back seat including baby seat attachments, but you're never allowed to idle the truck and they're quick to blame the consumer when you do idle??? I have an infant child and you had better bet that the truck idles when it needs to in order to keep the cabin cool with my precious cargo in it. Dodge can continue to clean my O2 sensors until the warranty expires. After that...ummm....I think I may indulge myself with a few "modifications."

I just want to know what they will say when I have to warm up my truck when it gets -10 and colder out.

Hey I live in Phoenix, AZ and they told me the same thing. Chrysler has issues with the truck. They need to fix the design. Just start writing letters to Chrysler and your dealer. Be curteous but to the point. They did not tell you of any special driving requirements before you paid your money?

Nope they sure didn't. Now after 4 attempts to try and fix my truck, they are now ordering me a new O2 sensor.

That should have been done on the second attempt. I'm wondering if the high exhaust temperatures are making the O2 sensors go out prematurely

We'll see how long the new one lasts. The service guy told me that Chrysler knows about this problem with the O2 sensor. Never really gave me a good answer on how Chrysler is going about to fix it.

I am curious - will the "modifications" fix the O2 issue...??

Exactly! Like I'm just gonna drop my windows and let my 4-year old and 19-month old sit in the 119-degree heat in Havasu while I load the boat in or out of the water.

Last time coming back from Havasu the truck threw a P0420 code for the cat. convertor. The service manager blamed me and told me I had to "drive it like a truck." Hell, I was towing on the highway at 75mph when the code popped up. My boat and trailer only weigh 5,000-6,000lbs. Am I supposed to load 10K lbs of lead shot in my hull every time I go to the river?

I respectfully lit her up for that comment and then reminded her, the head service manager, the sales manager, and the general manager that there was conveniently no mention whatsoever of specific driving requirements when I went in there with my checkbook to buy the damn thing and I'd better not hear that excuse from them ever again.

Sorry, just venting like everybody else.

While I wait for my part to come it, I was trying to figure out are the truck is started, I hear it chime once. The first thing I do is to check the CEL. Not on. Drove around for a while, turned it off then started it again and heard the chime. The past few days it's been doing that with no light. Started to think I was losing my mind untill I just happened to noticed the information screen and it says oil change see dealer. For all this time it was that. Felt dumb. Then I started thinking only 1500 miles and oil change already.

If you want to turn the oil change required light off just turn the key to the one position (but don't start the truck) and pump the accelerator pedal 3 times in quick succession. That will turn the light off.
