I have been taking mine to the dealer cause I keep getting coupons in the mail for oil change and chassis lube service for $49.99 I can't get the oil and get rid of the waste for that so it is more convenient for me to let them do it. Then if somethign goes wrong it is there A**

just called the dealer I bought the truck from...

$102

after asking him about coupons etc...he said "sorry, price is $102"

youd think after buying 2 trucks from the same dealership and asking specifically for a discount they would budge alittle.

ohwell...its far cheaper elsewhere. (and to do it yourself)

so the cheapest i got hte dealer down to was 79.99....and after all that haggling I simply decided to do it myself just to piss him off more =)

finally got it changed last night...and even after 2600 miles that is the blackest, runniest, nastiest ive ever seen come out of a motor thats still running.

ive seen zero weight oil that had more viscosity than this stuff....i honestly cant believe that would lubricate a damn thing in the motor! suppose thats par for the course in diesel ownership though.

was quite amazed at how much oil the filter took dry....its like an endless sponge!

anyway...wasnt terribly difficult...nice that the oil plug fits a socket end...saved me having to go find my allen sockets =)

It cost me roughly $40 to do an oil change. 3 gallons of oil @$10 each and 1 filter @ $10 each. I just got a coupon from my dealer for a $39.95 oil change. If they were close I might use it. Sure beats getting my hands all black!

My over head came on at 1800! Regardless, I had already dropped my oil as soon as I drove my truck home from the lot, then again after 500, 1000, and 2000. I've also been riding around with a speaker magnet on the bottom of the pan to catch any tiny metallic debris. So far, I'm using K&N filters and Shell Rotella T, $9.50 a gallon at Wally World. Although I have been hearing bad things about the new Rotella T, CJ-4 formulation, might switch on this next oil change.

Oil change recommendation.

IMO, I would change the oil after 3K anyway...and use a VERY HIGH QUALITY SYNTHETIC...like Am$oil DEO 5w-40... The oil is guaranteed to last 1 year 12,000miles with an EA oil filter by the same company..

Black oil is NORMAL for a diesel...it should not thicken up, break down, or gain acid if you use a TOP QUALITY synthetic..

I am not recommending any particualar brand but there is only one TRUE FULL SYNTHETIC on the market...google. DEO 5w-40
