Hot Shot

Just get rid of it and be done with it. Somehow I think this new standard is going to fail and they might repeal the law. Then make the manufacturers pay for a conversion back.

All this is hurting everyone. Not just us. The trucking industry is really getting hit and it's raising the costs to us all.

My dpf/egr broke a long time ago. Thus the cheap bad/k2 replacements. Been runnin perfect ever since and no problems with DOT ever. Even had 1 guy looking underneath and even said i have a nice setup.
Theres no way im putting stock stuff back on, my truck will be sold and my ideas of getting a 4500 will be lost as i will be stuck with the tried and true 5.9 cause im not to impressed with the 6.7 and its features. EB sucks compared to competitors, torque convertor sucks maybe even compared to the 48. But now im off subject

The only way we're going to get what we need to know is to talk to some EPA lawyer. But being officers of the court, I don't think that is a good idea unless you pay him for the time.

They'd have to build a new mega prision just for this forum alone.

Folks - don't delude yourselves into rationalizing a 'legal' way to remove the DPF.

2007 and newer trucks ALL require DPFs to comply with EPA standards and tampering with them in any way violates Federal law under the Clean Air Act.

Getting caught and fined is another story but there is no 'loophole' here no matter what the state told you or what the Dodge window sticker says.

DPF or EGR delete = 100% illegal.

Thanks Moser

I was still walking the fence on that. . . I wasn't totally convinced we could remove them. However, in reviewing the laws, it's implying the CAT is required, but the DPF is not. Not sure where this is going yet. We're waiting for someone with authority to say something.

You sound like you know what's going on. Would you be kind enough to elaborate for us?

Not quite sure what you meant with

The 1999 Code that you are looking at will have nothing about the new emissions. You need to be looking at the 2007 Code.

2005 CFR Title 40, Volume 18

Interesting, I see many things mentioning a 'life of the system'.... Looks like it's somewhere around 10 years or 100,000 miles for our trucks. I wonder if that means it's not required to function after 100,000 miles? I'm not up on emissions testing, but they used to have it in the tri-county area here in MI, and someone told me there was an exemption for cars over a certain age/mileage. I've also been told there was an exemption if it was going to cost over 'X' amount of dollars to make the vehicle compliant.

I still think that one of the better arguments is that the system that's on the '07.5 and later 6.7L is not _required_ until 2010. They can probably make you try and pass '07 standards, but I think if I got caught trying to mess with something that's not required by law until 2010, I'd take it to jury trial and let the people decide...

I suggested a petition and coordinate it with all the diesel forums. Get all of them to run one.

I would do it, but I have a full plate as it is! Something like this needs the help of the administrators. There must be a way to create an on line petition and track who voted. Maybe a Poll. That only lets you vote once.

Here is a link to a web site with Pro Auto hobbiest Legislators for each state with there contact info. Everyone should check it out and write to you legislature and explain the situation. Maybe a smart person on here can write a smart sounding letter stating the facts about milage, more oil changes required (both using more oil which is supposidly short) and all the othere pro's and cons (if you can think of any cons. I cant except pissin off the hippies) and post it on here then everyone put your name on it and send it to your respective state representative. Sound like a plane or am I just spoutin hot air???
