1st oil change

The over head display says it's time to change the oil. I have 2300 miles.

When I bought my truck the dealer told me 5,000 miles on the 1st oil change.

I wanted to see what you guys think. Thanks

well im not completely sure, but i would change at 3,000 at the earliest.

maybe they have break in oil from the factory?? idk, but im sure its good until 3K

after that though just throw some decent oil in there and change her every 5K.

I'd change it. You never know what they put in and when. Start anew with your chosen oil and begin your pm schedule.

They all seemed to be programmed to come on early. Like salesrep said, change it now then go to your own schedule after that.

The overhead oil change message is based on driving habits such as speed, city vs. highway, loads etc. It's not very accurate. For a 1st oil change I'd change it early.

Because of the regeneration and EGR system on our trucks I tend to change it much earlier than prior diesels. I change mine every 3K-5K miles.

To reset the overhead message turn the key to ON but don't start it. Depress the throttle pedal 3 times within about 5-10 seconds. Turn the key to off. When you turn key back to on or start it the message should be reset.

i just changed mine @ 3,666 miles. I was going to anyway, since the motor seemed to be making oil according to the dipstick, but the OHD gave me a System Warning - Oil Change Required - See Dealer Immediatley.

I should get the email from Blackstone in the next day or so with my results.

I'm going to call the service dept. as soon as I get time.

The salesman told me they do not put break-in oil in these trucks, he said I should do 1st oil change at 5,000.

This is a reputable dealer, the salesman has been at this same dealership for 18 years.

i changed my first oil at 3200 when the overhead told me to, and my overhead seems to come on fairly early but i never really worried about it.

The OH hasn't told me to change it yet (4800 miles now) but I changed it at 3700 or so mostly because of the growing oil thing.

Mine came on at 2500 miles, one of the reasons for the overhead telling you to change the oil earlier than recommeded is due to fuel dilution of the oil. Change the oil, compared to any possible damage caused by too much fuel in the oil, its cheap.

My message just came on with 4500 miles. Gonna change it soon. What P.M schedule is everyone following? Looking at the owners manual and it says 7500 miles but does mention the change the oil dummy light. You guys think the monitor is that accurate?
