If my 07 gets lemon lawed, what would you do?

I've had pretty bad luck with my 2007. I now have around 11,200 miles and the check engine light has been on for nearly half of them.

Turbo was replaced, EGR problems, front speakers, rough idle, hard starts, driveline pops, poor fuel MPG.

Really the fuel economy is getting to me. I'm getting around 15 MPG highway while my buddy's 2007 (5.9 but same config) is getting 20 MPG and getting better. Mine has been about the same from day one.

So provided Dodge does buy my truck back, would you opt to get a new 2008 or look for a used low mileage 5.9L?

Unless you are one serious unlucky Chap, I would get a new 6.7 . Most of the problems out there are due to dealers not knowing Jack and they blame everything else. Time will heal most of the education needed to maintain and fix our trucks. Already there is a decrease of complaints after the latast flash, considering that these trucks are selling fast. The 5.9 is solid no doubt, but after owning 4 already and putting huge mileage on them, I can't compare them to the power, smoothness and ease of the 6.7 (stock). But as the saying goes each to their own. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Why would you think that when getting a larger displacement with more HP and Torque that you would get as good of mileage as a 5.9?
I would love to get better mileage also but when I need the power I gladly accept that power costs mileage. The 5.9 was not a perfect piece when it came out I am sure so if your not happy go to the 5.9 but when they get the 6.7 worked out you will be sad.

I like my tried and proven 5.9l. The 6.7l may be as good or better than the 5.9l someday but that will take sometime.

because you lose more MPG from the regen process than was estimated (by my friend who works at Cummins). I wasn't expecting a 25% drop with an engine that's only 12% bigger I knew it would be less, but I wasn't expecting 15 MPG highway.

And honestly compared to my friends 5.9, I don't believe my 6.7 is that much faster/stronger. You lose a lot of power with the emissions stuff, which is evident with the dyno results.

for you guys recommending the 5.9L

Any suggestions on where to look? Any dealers or sites that specilize in used Diesels? I already look on ebay, and it's been slim pickings lately.

Unfortunantly I do qualify for a supplier discount, which is why I'm entertaining the idea of another new one.

I don't think I would get another 6.7 right now. Mine's been in two times for different CELs within the first 10 days I've owned it. They will probably make a reliable version eventually but it's not there yet. I am OK with my truck's mileage, which is at 19 mpg cummulative average over the past 600 miles. I drive it pretty easy.

19 mpg would be great

I wonder if part of my problem is the gearing of the G56 and the 3.73s. I noticed they offer 3.42 (or close to that) now. I run 2200 RPM @ 70 MPH. I know the autos are less.

Diesel is $0.52 more than 87 octane here.

Yeh they seem to have too many bugs right now. I am sure it will be a good engine once they fix the problems, but I would go with a tried and true engine right now. So I vote for a low mileage 5.9.

And its my understanding that the hp difference isnt all that much when compared to a late model 5.9. At least nothing that you would feal in your pants.

I would take a new 6.7 with the higher geared G56/AE, 3.42's and then put 285's on it...It would be slow as molasses, but I could probably go down the highway at 70 in 5th at a reasonable rpm!
